997.1 Max PSI in Normal and Sport mode

Hi, long time lurker first time poster.

I've searched the forums, google, etc and haven't seen an exact answer to my question. I have an '07 Turbo that runs fairly well but doesn't want to make more than 11-13psi in normal or sport mode. We've checked for boost leaks and none were present. I think the diverters are working since they'll hold ~22psi vacuum on a hand pump. I've driven a friend 997.1 turbo (both cars are bone stock BTW) and his car will hit 17-18psi in sport no problem. Also, boost on my car seems to build much slower than other turbo I've driven...

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum,

Check the actuator rods of your turbos. The ball joints might be stuck and need to be lubricated.

Ok, i'll try that.
Do you recommend a preferred lubricant for the ball joints?
Any tips on how to preform this procedure? Im fairly handy with a wrench but have no experience with these vgt turbos.
Thanks!

There was a service campaign about lubricating the actuator mechanism called W902.

Any high temperature grease should be fine and Porsche uses Gleitmo WSP 5040.

Porsche part number 999 917 778 00

I am getting this same problem, 1.0BAR boost regardless of being in normal/sport mode and I have a basic tune.

Thanks for the service action. Here is a link I found with the details/instructions. I'll be checking this out this upcoming weekend.

Hey guys,

The actuator rod seems to be moving the entire distance no problem but struggles returning even with new grease. Where is the spring that returns the actuator back to starting position? Is it in the actuator and if so can I replace just actuators? Mine just feel lazy if that makes sense. Can't find any part numbers in PET though for just the actuator (still digging)?

Thanks again!

Maybe you just need to calibrate the actuator(s). The Porsche dealer can do this with their PIWIS tool.

Ok, I will ask my friend to use their PIWIS. That is not a problem.
Thanks for all your help!

Stef,

How often do you recommend lubricating the ball joints?

Thanks

Once a year should be fine. If you're in Canada then at least once a week.

Haha thanks! I'll call the dealer(unless you can source elsewhere) and get a quote on that grease part # 999 917 778 00. If it's too expensive I will use maple syrup.

turns out one of my actuators was getting hung up... so even though when i manually ran them through their range of motion by hand, the passenger side couldn't move while driving. After lubricating everything is fine and I'm making 17-18psi in sport. Thanks!

I stopped by the Porsche dealer earlier today to order a can of the lube specified above and they quoted me over $100! Have all of you paid this price, or is there a suitable alternative I can order off of Amazon?
