Newbie has some questions

Hi,

I've been reading with interest this forum. I am interested in what mods to make on a 997.1 Turbo for best power without an engine rebuild.

Could you advise?

Thanks

Jon

Basic mods (in order of preference):

1) Aftermarket exhaust, run catless (I run speedtech and am extremely happy with it for the sound and performance)
2) BMC air filter (keep it clean always though, otherwise OEM does a fine job anyway)
3) Aftermarket tune, with the above mods can push to 550bhp safely

4) GT2RS intercooler upgrade
5) IPD plenum + GT3 throttle bodies, (a y-pipe from esmotor maybe for more flow)
6) Retune required, with the addition of the above mods, depending on tuner, can push between 620-650bhp.

Anything further requires you to upgrade turbos, add a meth kit, tune for E85 etc etc.

There are many "bells and whistles" available; many have dubious claims to HP gains. the most important for very nice performance increases are:
- Exhaust. Many available. Kline is currently very popular.
- Good tune. Cobb access port is currently popular.
- better intercoolers.
Others may disagree, but I believe the other goodies are expensive and provide only marginal gains for street use.

Thanks for these.

So you guys seem to be not too bothered about the inlet plenum Y pipe, cold air feed, intercooler pipes etc

Having read quite a bit on here it seems that 7-800bhp is possible without changing internals

Don't waste money on a cold air feed; the stock intake is excellent, and the supposed "cold air" intakes actually pull in warm air from the engine compartment which defeats the whole purpose. They look cool, but are not effective.
Once again others may disagree, but I feel that unless you upgrade turbos and internals, the other items will provide only marginal increases.

If you want, you can do 800 WHP on a stock motor with a complete bolt-on package with GT30-esqe turbos.

Some examples:
There's also a bunch of shops that you could work with a compile your own "performance package".
