997.1 tune and exhaust

My father recently bought his first ever porsche, which happens to be a 997.1 turbo cab. He is looking to get a tune and exhaust for the car. He is looking at doing a speedtech exhaust, either 2.5 inch or 3.0 inch and a softronic tune, which according to the internet would be pushing 600+ hp. My questions are...

1. How come each companies tunes vary so much in horse power gains?
Softronic from what I have looked at has huge gains of over 100hp, while other companies such as FVD have gains of 50HP.

2. Is a Softronic tune a good tune for this car? Is it safe? Would this 100+hp softronic tune be putting more pressure on the car than say a lower horsepower tune?

3. Does anyone here have a speedtech exhaust? If so, how does it sound and which exhaust do you have?

Thanks

SpeedTech is a great exhaust. You will be happy with it.

Softronic is not a "popular" tune here on 6speed / rennlist.

The tuners that I would look to (in no order)

Markski @911 tuning
Sam @by design
Tony @ ELP
Kevin @ UMW
EVOMS

Good luck

Softronic provides a fantastic tune. They have been tuning Porsches for longer than any other company and have actively been involved with Porsche racing, including powering a car to victory at the Rolex series 24 hrs. of Daytona. They tune a lot of the 996 GT3 track cars, which require precise, reliable tuning. Scott, the owner of Softronic knows the Porsche ECU so well and has been involved so long that he has been chosen to act as a technical ECU referee at various Porsche Motorsports events.

From their web site:

Based out of Connecticut, Softronic has been working with Porsche systems for nearly 30 years. From street cars to race cars, Softronic has involved itself in all types of motorsports to stay consistantly involved in the industry. Having cutting edge technology not only makes the ECU Tuning process more efficient, it also makes it more accurate. Softronic has been the technical advisor for the Porsche Club of America (PCA) for several years as well. One of the main functions that Softronic serves is data checking of Porsche Motorsports vehicles for race teams. Reading out the binary code and checking data allows Softronic to gain OEM insight into the vehicles brain unit and of course, a fair playing field for race regulations. In the tuner market focusing on street cars, Softronic has gained a very solid name. As a sponsor for both Planet Porsche and 6speedonline forums, Softronic customers are plentiful with success. Some of the fastests cars are tuned in cooperation with Softronic. Everything from 1000HP 996 Turbos to daily driving Porsche 987 Cayman's. Softronic focuses on the driveability, reliability, and convenience in tuning your vehicle.

Softronic uses actual Bosch tools from Porsche to do the ECU flashing. Other companies have had to reverse engineer the system to be able flash the cars. This system does not always flash the entire vehicles parameters. Because Softronic is so involved with motorsports and data checking, they have seen almost all others flash code by checking the binary data. In the end, many customers have their allegiance to certain tuners. We know that Softronic has the most convenient, in-depth, tuning package available for Porsche right now. Our Software out performs our competitors in real world scenarios and is designed to ensure your vehicle is safe and fun.

I put a 3" speed tech x pipe with 200 cell cats on my .1 a few weeks ago - really wakes the car up. The driving experience is so much better with it. This exhaust is LOUD and agressive so it's not for everyone but speed tech has different options depending on what you are looking for sound wise.

Here is a cold start clip, it's even louder in person

I have had great success with Softronic tunes. I just purchased another one for my 09. Perfectly drivable with a huge difference in usable power. Very easy to remove if you want to return it to stock. I am partial to GMG's exhaust although there are many X-pipe exhaust now. Good luck.

Agree with this 100%! Have had the Softronic tune on mine for years and is awesome and trouble free.

Scott is a great person to deal with as well...and is brilliant when it comes to Porsche as mentioned.

The OP did go with us for the software and Speedtech as well for the exhaust . He had posted on 6speed at a different location. https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...onic-tune.html
