997.2 ESmotor/ AIM new 1/4 Mile stock engine Record- ES850R

Drove to track this weekend at ATCO NJ and decided to attempt and set a new 997.2 turbo world record. Temps were very cold and was running MS109, that combination was making car go lean after 100 mph and put it in limp mode. The boys at AIM advised to lower the boost and water down the 109 with 100 octane. It worked and was able to make one clean run before getting booted for the one and only clean pass. Car is FBO + Syvecs and Dodson clutches. Stock engine. Drove to and from the track 2.5 Hours.

First 3 passes shows car going into limp. Last pass was the record pass.

Enjoy.

Awesome! Who wins at a drag race, is it the person that crosses the finish line first or lowest et? That one car that did 10.1 blasted out of the gate!

That was likely a Test and Tune. Nobody wins.

Driver of the Porsche wasn't trying to cut a good light (good reaction time), just trying to get a good launch for a good ET, hence him sitting at the "Green" light for a 1/2 sec. or so before moving.

As far as racing goes, whomever crosses the finish line first wins. This is why cutting a good light (having a good reaction time to the lights) is SO important in Drag Racing.

Great explanation. Agree on all counts. I was just trying to get the best ET so I wanted to eliminate the reaction factor out of the equation. Thx

additionally, the reaction time isn't factored into the ET which combined with the trap speed is the primary metric that we all use to compare cars. Reaction time is all driver related, and often we take our sweet time at the light even when it's green because we're building up boost and/or making sure that we're at optimal launch RPM when trying to get the best possible ET. A good reaction time is under .1 second. if you see a negative reaction time, then the car left on a red light but the ET is still valid

Makes perfect sense. I've never been to the drag strip. I'm sure I'd be left for dead at the light.

Just remember if you ever do go. Two types of "Trees". A "Sportsman" and a "Pro" tree.

Sportsman tree will have 3 yellow lights that light up one at a time like seen in his video.

Pro Tree = All 3 yellows lights come on at the time time and you only have about .4 sec. between the yellows and the green light.

On Either type of Tree, you want to LEAVE / LAUNCH ON THE LAST YELLOW of the sportsman tree and LEAVE on All Yellows on a Pro Tree.

The reason for this is that by the time you see the last yellow come on, release the clutch / brake / etc. (depending on car setup), the suspension has time to "Squat", and then the car starts to roll out of the beams, a certain amount of time has passed. You have to roll about 6-12 inches out to break the beam, so technically your car is getting a head start on the timing system (HENCE MOST MAGAZINES & PERFORMANCE ORIENTED OUTLETS USE THE 1 FOOT ROLL OUT WHEN TIMING 0-60 TIMES TO PUBLISH TO THE PUBLIC.) This ALL depends on how shallow or deep you "Stage" into the staging lights (the two above the yellows that tell you if you've staged yet.....Pre-stage light and then the Stage light).

The key is to KNOW your car and the time is takes to get squatted and move, and how deep you like to stage in the lights. Then you can accurately decide how soon before the actual GREEN light to leave.

At any point that you actually see the GREEN before you Leave, you're Way behind at that point.

So, if you ever try it, just remember to stage shallow, meaning barely roll in to turn on the bottom staging bulb, (best for getting a quicker ET due to the bigger "head start" before the timing starts), and then LEAVE AS SOON AS YOU SEE THE LAST YELLOW EVEN START TO GLOW!!! This should net you a decent light (reaction time).

As said above, this process described and the time it all takes has NO barring on your ET (except the fact that shallow staging gives you more of a head start vs. deep staging which just gives you a few inches head start on your competitor...People use this when they think they need that little extra to beat their competitor to the finish line, because ultimately THAT is what wins races...Not ET's.

One last thing...Reaction time is SO impoortant during a race itself, it IS Possible to Win a race and have a Slower ET than your competitor. If your reaction time is good / quick enough and the cars are evenly matched, you could win a race and have an ET that was as much as a tenth or so SLOWER than your competitor. It happens often actually in NHRA racing (Mainly Pro Stock and slower cars, but has happened in the top fuel cars too).

Hope this stuff made sense and may help you if you ever go racing. It's a TON of fun!!! And quite easy once you get the hang of it (Well not so easy to get a really good reaction time in the .1 or quicker range. That's challenging and takes lots of passes to get right).

I mention Pro Tree in my above post. Here's me at the track on a pro tree. It's a POV vid, so pay attention to the staging lights and then Notice all 3 yellows light at the same time. Very hard to cut a good light with this vs. a sportsman tree.

Mine RT was a low .2 here.

Other vid is from the stands...the race with the new ZR1 you will notice I had to hit the brakes BEFORE crossing the finish line. We were in the 11.00 Index class where you can't go quick than 11 secs. or you break out...We Both broke out but I went quicker even on the brakes than he did running all out, so he actually won the race. Index classes are a Whole different ball of wax..lol. I'll explain if you want.

OP, sorry about the slight HighJack of your thread. Just like helping folks understand and go try drag racing. It's a passion of mine, like you evidently.

Thanks man..

Wonder why your Dragy app wasn't working correct. I love that fact it shoots vid with my phone.

Here's my other one were I got a better 0-60 (2.88 w/out rollout and 2.67 w/ one foot rollout).

This is the one where I had to hit the brakes to try to keep from breaking out and the ZR1 comes flying by trying to catch me...lol

Update 9.26@153.67

No Point in making a new thread... I will just update this one.

Took car to 1/4 mile event this weekend. Drove 2 hours to Atco NJ, made my first pass.... 9.26@153.67 further improving my personal best and world record for this platform. Car is running extremely well and Big thanks to the AIM/ ESmotor team. The most impressive part is I got to drive it home again.

Still need to improve that 60 foot, as you could see slipping in the video. Shes got some better times in her.

Enjoy
