Converting V12S paddle shift to 6 speed manual... Advice?

Hi all! I have a 2015 V12 S Roadster with 10k miles. I don't like the paddles shift. I've driven several 2017 V12 7 Speed manuals and don't really care for that gearbox. I have purchased the six speed manual including torque tube, shifter, oil cooler, pedal box and aluminum gear ****. Before I begin, any advice would be appreciated!

Suggestions on what needs to be reprogrammed and who might be able to do it?

Thanks!

Curious, the 2017 is the same transaxle for Automated and 2017 manual, isn't it? Why not see if the 2017 Manual parts can be switched? Or am I missing something?

Keep searching on the forum, I recall someone doing something similar some time ago. My recollection is that the mechanical part was not that bad, but that was a 6 speed shifter to a 6 speed transaxle sportshift.
The real problem was finding someone knowledgeable enough with the Aston Martin dealer level software, and with good enough contacts back at the factory to get the software for the car to forget it was one system and accept the other. If I recall, that was complex and required a real expert to catch the dozens of places where subtle differences in the settings were to be found. Apparently, manual or paddle shifter is baked in to the VIN at a very deep level.
Things could also get interesting if you ever have to get the car software reloaded at a dealer since the VIN software database at the factory will differ from what you have now and you might have to go round the loop again.

If it was easy, I might consider getting my 2015 V8V converted, but easy is apparently not the right adjective.

Philip

While the gearbox is nearly identical the seven speeds are different enough that the paddle shift version needs internal modification.

That said, I don't like the seven speed and I really like the six speed. The six speed shifts nicely where as the 7 speed is one of the worst gearbox shifter's I've driven.

Besides, I already now have the six speed transaxle, torque tube and oil cooler as well as the shifter so I've got all the hardware. Also a good time to replace the exhaust manifolds with coated headers and get hp up to 600.

I have a friend who converted a 599 GTO to manual shift so I figure if that can be done so too can this. The ideal car IMO is the V12 S with the six speed manual.

The 7 speed SS and manual shift are not the same, internals have shift forks that differ from the S-cam version specific to the SS box. Wish it was that easy to switch. 6-speed is probably the better option.

I believe that all SS gearboxes are different from their manual versions. Something about the SS boxes having, among other things, thinner gears.

I wish you well. This sounds like a very interesting project. I agree with everyone the problem will be in the software. But isn’t there a separate control module for the SS transmission that the main control module talks to.

I do miss cars of old, when your biggest problem was finding the correct transmission mount and clutch linkage. Now, that's the easy part.

Very true. Yes, the software is likely to be the "hardest" part although swapping that heavy rear transaxle will be some work as well but simply mechanical.

That's the point of this thread. Looking for input and advice from folks regarding this process.

They are largely the same but the fingers related to the shifter are different according to Graziano...the manufacturer of the gearbox with whom I have spoken.

@valor1 - will you share your contact details for Graziano please (assuming this was a recent conversation, as I can’t find anything)? I’d like to speak to them too!

Thanks,
Stuart
