Got it!!!!!!!
Got it!!!!!!!
They said it couldn't be done.
They said there weren't any out there without deposits on them.
They said I couldn't order one.
They said forget it and look at a optioned up regular car.
They said they could only find 3 optioned up regular cars in all of CA.
They said they would not sell an optioned up regular car for less than MSRP.
They said nobody would ever dealer trade one.
They looked on their computers and couldn't find anything.
They said I was SOL!!!!!!!
They underestimated me!
I located a Premier Edition GL450 and I picked it up tonight! I am so thrilled with the car. After suffering with 3 Suburbans and 1 Denali, I have finally found SUV nirvana! Will post pics soon.

They have a special edition GL that is called a Premier Edition. It's a lot like the Millenium Edition 996 or the PCA edition 997. It pretty much has every option available plus some that are not. Also, it has a special paint/leather/trim combination. Also, there are quite a few GLs out there but with limited options to keep the cost down. They start at something like $55k and go up to $75k or so.
Thanks for the explaination. It's odd to offer such special edition at the launch year. I guess MB knew it had to discount the car...
Have you driven the old G? I wonder how the GL compares. I may need a 7 seat SUV in another year or two. Used is fine by me so I was thinking of a G55 or G500.

i dunno my sister works for gm and i could have got a any of them with the family discount and saved money. but the interior in the gm is well.... Gm bland. they ride nice but everyone down the street has a gm suv with bling-bling 22-26inch wheels.
i know soon we will see gls too. but the gl premium edition interior sold me. i cant deny the HP of the new caddy but you cant use it anymore. too much traffic here in the bay area.
to each his own, thank GOD we all are able to have nice choices like this.

You are absolutely right about the $ part though. $3k over MSRP!

If you do have the rear seats up then say good bye to any cargo hauling in the back as its almost non existant. Believe me I wanted the GL over the Denali as "a Benz is a Benz, hands down" but for room and comfort and useablity the Denali XL/Escalade ESV are untouchable people movers.

I disagree and I have had a Denali XL as well as 3 Suburbans. The comfort level is not comparable. The GL rides great and is ultra quiet. Power is snappy and instantaneous as well. The GM SUVs also ride great until you hit a bump or any rough surface. Then it does what every other truck does, it vibrates and rattles in response. It's a truck and not a unibody passenger car so it's to be expected. Don't get me wrong, my Denali XL was a stellar family vehicle in every way. It simply did not compare from the driver's seat. Everybody that rode in the Denali felt it was smooth and quiet but from the driver's seat it felt pretty rough. I did not have any real "rattles" in the car but the whole thing shook on rough spots or rough pavement.
As far as cargo capacity, the hands down winner is the GM SUV. The Suburban, Denali XL, Yukon XL, Escalade ESV simply can not be beat! You are talking about at least 20" of increased length in the cargo area. That's a huge amount of space. However, fold one 3rd row seat down in the GL and you have plenty of space for suitcases. In fact, with the 3rd row seat up, there is more room behind them than the Tahoe, Yukon or Escalade. I don't understand the standard length GM SUVs at all. Why have seating for 7 or 8 when you can't even carry bags for one?
The bottom line is, the GL is leaps and bounds better than the Denali. I do miss the space but I don't miss the driving dynamics of the Denali compared to the GL. I definitely want my family/passengers to be comfortable but I want to be comfortable as well. Also, if you need more space for trips, you could always get a car top carrier or hitch mounted carrier. I saw a lot of SUVs and vans with them during our trip this weekend.
Bajo, I also have 3 kids but I also have a mother in law that likes to tag along a lot. She sat in the back and said she was very comfortable (trust me she would have told me if she wasn't). The only problem she had was that she had a tough time getting out of the GL. The Denali XL was a little easier with the middle row captain chairs. Overall, the GL worked out great for our trip.

Robert,
I agree with you on the build quality and interior as well as the ride being quiet and smooth. I guess what turned my wife and me of the GL was being used to the space in the interior of the Denali. Yes the ride was firm when the road was bad and as you said its built on a pickup chassis. But we could not see us getting the 2 child seats plus our 12yo in and out comfertably on a daily basis in the GL. Also I dont know what GM is thinking when they designed the regular Denali with the 3rd row seats as like you said you are SOL for putting anything back in the cargo besides a newspaper.
Anyway congrats and I am happy you got the premier edition, enjoy her in good health and many many miles.
