WTB Direct TV HD TIVO
dtv will have a new hd-dvr out. it will be marked as an hr20-700, its priced at 299$ lease. if you are considering getting one, don't waste too much money. the hr20 will be basically the H20 and the R15 combined
I am not up to date on HD TIVO. Are you saying the current model they are selling me is not "up to par"?

Current model will require an off-air antenna for local hd. Currently there is only 1 HD receiver on the market for DTV that can give you local hd (if available in your area) through your satellite, which is the H20, all other models require an off-air antenna (which I find to be poor quality most of the time). Also the HR20 will be DTV's DVR-Plus base, not Tivo so it will NOT require a phoneline for daily callbacks. DTV will be releasing the HR20 to the Los Angeles market soon, so expect releases to other major metro areas soon after.

hd-dvr from dtv is $399 for lease price on the hr10-250. hr20 is only avail in la right now. I'm going to stick with hr10 till the get all the issues resolved within the h20 and r15 because they are having way way too many problems with it. I also like tivo's software much better than DVR-Plus's. Your picture shouldn't be fading out because of rain, I would get a service call and see what's going on.
Lot of bad info here.
MrJanko, you can get a FREE HD-DVR for subscribing to Sunday ticket.

Just make sure you call the retention number and be real nice, even if you don't get it. Then just call again. If you're not under contract, you just hint you're thinking about cable for the HD-DVR for only a few bucks a month instead of needing to buy a unit for so much money.
It's a tough call for you to get this box because it's MPEG-2 only. In the LA and NYC market, we get local HD channels, but all other markets will require the newer MPEG4 box/DVR. I'd just put a quality HD antenna up and keep this box because the newer HD-DVR will not be TiVO and is not as easy to use. The DirecTV rep was even saying she wants to get one before the new box comes out because of TiVO. She also mentioned they just dropped the price on the HD-TiVO unit to clear out inventory. They will likely give you the new HD-DVR once it's widely available.
As for the quality of over the air(OTA) HDTV, it's better than the DirecTV HD because there's less compression with free OTA HDTV. Something like this one:

This sucker will pick up HD stations from 50+ miles away as long as there are no buildings, trees or hills in the way.
