AMG and extended warranty

My brother is picking up a MB C55 tomorrow and I told him that it would be a good idea to get an extended warranty considering the cost of anything AMG related. Does MB have their own ext warranty?

yes, you can get it at the dealer. you have 30 days after new purchase. beyond that, you can get it from some dealer in socal i believe. can't remember which one and how much. mbworld has good info on this. amg stuff isn't that much more $$$. engine and basic drivetrain is pretty much bullet proof. some minor electrical sensor issue or other work is std labor and parts.

tmans is infamous around these parts
I bought the MB extended warranty when I got my car back in '03. Felt like it was much needed considering the costs to fix these cars if something goes wrong. Although mine is not an AMG, the problems are mostly all the same...electrical. But be warned, there are some exclusions with the extended warranty so make good friends with the SA and/or SM.

Actually, if you are the original owner, you have up to 4yrs/50K miles to get one....it's more expensive the longer you wait however.

MB changed the rules last year. Previously, the original owner had to purchase the extended warranty in the first 12 months or 12K miles.

Enjoy your AMG!

I personally think extended warranty's are a not worth it. First one I bought benefited the next owner, I ended up selling the car before it kicked in. Second warranty I bought they found some BS reason to not fix the car, then they went bankrupt! Put the $2K-3k in a CD and use that money when it breaks down. Cars these days seem to have a lot less problems then years ago. Just my $.02

Good point! I have purchased 2 extended warranty packages in the past and ended up getting rid of the cars within a year. I was thinking that AMG engine Mercs were going to be expensive to repair but it seems that they are fairly problem free. Thanks for the info guys, I called my brother and pretty much told him not to bother with the warranty.

True and if he is into modifications, I reccomend him a Ecu upgrade, Green filters and Some Headers he is looking at 30-33hp easily, Loads of torque.

Good idea, and another point, if he MODS the thing, consider any aftermarket warranty worthless. Thats their favorite excuse to deny a claim.
