2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class!
2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class!

Our “Lady of the Long Lens,” Brenda Priddy has trained her camera on Mercedes-Benz’s 2008 C-Class, and come away with some fresh new views, including an undisguised rear three-quarter shot!
Priddy believes that the pivotal new sedans will be unveiled at next year’s Geneva show (early March), with cars arriving in dealers soon thereafter. A wagon variant is expected about a half-year after the sedan. A coupe and convertible (read: CLKs) are also expected to arrive on the same platform. Presumably, European markets will receive the baby Benzes before North America does, but we wouldn’t rule out a worldwide rollout, either.

Seen here for the first time testing with less disguise than ever before is the new 2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class – and we even managed to get long-lens pictures of the car’s tail without any disguising at all!
We’re expecting the official unveiling to be at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show, with sales starting shortly after. We also anticipate the wagon to arrive 6 months later.
Our sources tell us that a soft-top and coupe are also planned, which we can only interpret as being the new CLK-Class (which is also based on the same platform).
Although the new C Class will share more of its components than before with the larger E-Class, the next C will be much sharper to drive, and more distinctive as a range in its own right: Mercedes-Benz is positioning the new C Class as “true small sports sedan”, rather than simply a smaller answer to the E.
The base engine will be a direct injection 4-cylinder 1.8-liter with varying horsepower from 150 to 190. Horsepower for the 2.5- and 3.5-liter V6 engines will be 210 to 270 respectively.
AMG’s 5.4-liter will be revised with new horsepower rating up from today’s 360, to 400-410bhp, to compete with the Audi RS4 and future BMW M3. Also a 3.0-liter diesel is planned, as well as the new iDrive-like operating concept found in the new S-Class. 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system will also remain available when the new model arrives.
