What is the process of designing a vehicle?

Make the version that will be the final production model and remove/strip certain aspects for initial launch OR design for the current time/period and facelift every few years?

Seems as though porsche follows the former route considering the initial launch cars always seem to have something missing - only later do they add the "extras." Case in point is the '99 996 -> '02 996. There are some significant design changes b/w these production years. whereas other companies seem to design a car as a final product for the life of the production and only make small changes. Most sedans seem to follow this route of design.

which brings me to the point about why porsche is so successful. the initial cars will always be superceded by better looking and better handling. and we as buyers simply don't like being superceded whether by design and/or by performance.

I posted this in the 997 forum thread but figured you all would like to see the pics as well. They're from the C&D website:

I dont think so, the C&D piece said it was an '09 911, that would be june/sep 08 order.
