Taking Delivery Next Month - Convince Me To Do It!

I ordered a new 997TT several months ago. It should arrive next month. In the interim, there has been lots of talk about new Porsche models and competing vehicles that may and will possibly steal some or much of 997TT's thunder. Even Porsche's own GT vehicles have better, or fresher lines than does the Turbo, but I need the rear seats on occasion for my kids. Additionally, there is talk that the current 997 version is merely transitional and that engine mods (direct injection, dsg/pdk) if not "right around the corner", are likely to surface within a couple of years, just about the time my car will finally be broken in. My question to the esteemed membership here is this: "Does it make sense to spend $145,000.00 on this car, at this late date in its production or model cycle, or is it twilight for TT?" I value your thoughts and obervations. Help me prevent buyer's remorse before it happens. Thanks.

This is the first model year for the 997TT. Not what I would consider "twilight." There is always going to be something newer and (hopefully) better coming in the future -- maybe next year, the year after, whenever.

The 997TT is an awesome car. Take delivery and enjoy it!

I'm in a similar position in that I have a 997TT on order, mine scheduled to arrive end of May. I could wait for an 08 but not going to. I want it as soon as possible! Direct injection and PDK are rumored to be in the 08 997's, but I doubt they will be in the 08 TT's. Even if they were, I wouldn't wait.

I certainly wouldn't put off a 997TT for the prospect of a 998. And a 998 TT is even further off.

Thanks! That's one for the "Go For It" crowd. How do you feel about taking delivery late in the model year? It appears that there's a $10-$15k price hit, year-to-year in early year depreciation over the premium you might command for having an '07 low mileage vehicle...

How do I feel about end of model year? That's a tougher question.

I originally had an October production date -- so it would have been an 08. But then the salesman told me a month ago that an order for an April production slot cancelled and I could have it. That's the difference in delivery between end of May vs. end of November. For that kind of difference in time, I went for the 07. I want the car for the summer, versus getting it in winter. May not be as much of an issue for you in sunny Orange County, but here in Seattle, summer is glorious and winter, is, well, not so glorious. Plus, who knows how much (if any) price increase there will be for 08.

I currently have an 02 Boxster S which I got in July 2002. That was truly end of model year. The 03 had a real improvement, too, namely, glass rear window. But I am very happy I got the Boxster when I did instead of waiting till October to get it -- that would have meant missing summer.

Life's short. Enjoy the car now. There will always be something newer/better down the road.

If the difference were between getting an 07 in July or an 08 in August, then I would probably wait. But given these set of choices, I chose to get the car and enjoy it.

Personally I wouldn't get PDk in the first year anyways. My hunch is that it won't be on the Turbo in the first year.

I thought about that too (and we have spoken privately on this issue). There always are pro's and con's to should I buy or should I wait? If you wait another year you will be asking yourself the same question about whats around the corner or whats up Porsches sleeve? Unless you absolutly love PDK or absolutely must have a convertible, then go for it right now. There will be minor tweeks come Sept but rumor has it that nothing major is going to happen until 2009 model year. Thats 2 years from now and 2 years is a long time to wait. Prices will increase and Porsche will ALWAYS play the whats new for next year game because its good for business. Rumor has it that the 998 is coming sooner than we think, should you go for the face lifted 2009 Turbo 2 years down the road or wait until the 998 comes out? It never ends and its part of their game. Enjoy it and don't look back, in 3 -4 years most of us will be ready to "upgrade" anyway. Life is too short! Enjoy in good health, THATS WHAT COUNTS MOST! Oh, and yes, personally I would not want to be part of PDK's test team in its early stages, remember what happened to BMW and SMG? JMO.

Just do it.

When I ordered/bought my '04 C4S Cab, I had the chance to wait, or do something else. And that truly WAS the twilight model year, or close.

Never happier.

DO IT.

Just do a 2 or 3-yr lease and trade it in on the next version...

If you've ever thought about buying a PC or any other piece of electronic media-related gear, you know there is no use waiting for newer technology, because there will ALWAYS be new technology around the corner. If you like the TT, get it, enjoy it. You obviously have some disposable income so don't worry about depreciation too much. Life's too short.

This will always be the case, a lot like computers in this regard... wait or buy now?

I say do it, life is short and there is plenty of time to be dead.

If you need to be convinced to pick up your car, then don't do it. You should buy a car that makes you jittery with anticipation and giddy with the thought of finally driving it, not a car that leaves you waffling back and forth about picking it up. Get a GT3RS or wait for a GT2. Or buy another brand altogether, like lamborghini or ferrari.

Okay, the Aye's have it! And thank you all for reminding me about the importance living life to its fullest, and living it now. Also, concerns about whatever Porsche has up its sleeve should be left to its engineers to worry about. Today's car is a magnificent machine and worthy of anyone's purchase. eaglejackson, mine should arrive at the end of May as well, so I look forward to comparing our experiences shortly thereafter.

I'm all for instant gratification! Buying a new car is just as fun as owning them.

Congrats! We should be getting our cars about the same time! I'm just North of you and for all we know our cars might arrive on the same ship? As soon as you have this puppy in your hands you will forget about what next year will bring and can't wait until breakin is over (I know some don't do that). My completion date was today but I was unable to confirm (dealer was closed when I called). Tomorrow is another day! BTW my breakin is over at 500 miles! After that, anything goes. Cheers.
