I'm thinking about selling my 03 Cobra for an 04 Mercedes Benz AMG E55....

...Should I do it?

The AMG has 53,275 miles and is bone stock. My Cobra has 27,011 miles and is mildly modded.

They want around $45K for the Benz....is this a good price for this kind of mileage? It also says that warranty is available.

I am just growing tired of the rawness and brute force of my Cobra, but I don't want to leave the whole horsepower thing. I am not sure what to do!! HELP!

I doubt it has more torque than my Cobra...last dyno check I made 537 ft. lbs. of torque....the AMG is like a murderer dressed in a suit, it's power but not the kind that whacks you in the face with a 2x4. That and the build quality is MUCH better...I can't stand the Ford creaks and squeaks anymore. Thst and I've been eyeballing a E55 for a LONG time and now is the time to step up to the plate for me. I'm just bored with the Cobra.

Be patient, don't buy an AMG that's out of warranty --- unless you're ready to pay the Mercedes tax. It's a very punitive tax, in warranty or out.

Not if he knows a certain someone that can get him parts at 10% over cost and all the work done on the side.

Mike,

Im sure your torque number is on a modified Cobra, would not be fair to compare to a stock E55 then, which makes more RWTQ then a stock 03+ Cobra. Here are some modified RWHP and RWTQ numbers for you to peruse
http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...no-Sheets.html
FYI i cut my teeth learning to drag race on a 351w 92 notchback mustang so theres a bit of ford blood left in my veins When u step up to the E55, there no reason to lose that 2x4 to the face torque.

go for it.... I think you could find one for 50k with a lot less miles though... It's a lot of fun being the sleeper... I ran up against a modded C6 yesterday on the highway and pulled em by a few cars....

have you driven one yet?

Can we see some pics of your Cobra? I have never driven an 03-04 Cobra, but the E55 is a fun ride. I have a 95 supercharged mustang, and they are just totally different experiences. The E55 is pretty raw too, but in a much more refined way if that makes sense.

I will say that the guy who runs Garnett (Ray?) is a straight shooter in my experience with him.
