Is Mercedes paint really this bad?

I finally had a chance to detail my CLS550 today and notices some spots in the clearcoat, not just on the bumper, but on some of the metal panels as well, very small blemishes- it seriously looks like it has been repainted (I bought it brand new) or that Mercedes did a very sh*tty clearcoat on it. My buddy who has had several benz's said he's not surprised, but if you pay close to $80K for a car, I'd expect a better paintjob...anyone else experience this?

Paint on my E55 is excellent. You sure it hasn't been repainted? Maybe damaged in shipping?

Post some pics. Are you talking about hazy spots like something is under the clearcoat? If so, I hear that there are problems with moisture getting under the plastic wrap that they put on the paint for shipment overseas. MB ceram-coat is the best paint I have ever seen. It is super shiny, super hard to scratch, and the metallic paints have a depth that is simply unreal. The Obsidian Black on my GL has so much depth that it looks like the clearcoat that you see on carbon fiber. That said, I have a spot like that on one of my fenders. Although it looked like it was under the clearcoat, a little Menzerna PO106FF on a red pad took it right out.

Bought 3 new MB's in the past 2 years and always found the paint to be very good quality. Nano technology in the paint is a joke. They have all been black cars and scratch very easily.

mono2100 is infamous around these parts
ive heard of several cases where the cars get damaged while in shipment, dealer does a crapy touchup and never discloses the damage to the customer...I would definitely look into it.

Could have been when the dealership detailed the car when it came off the truck. Some dealerships do a ****ty job in detailing! I know of someone that after the detail the clearcoat on the hood was buffed off and the detailer said that it was the paint that was bad.

nano clearcoat is harder therefore it's very hard to get rid of whatever gets on there. hard water spot is painful. time to get a new car.

Menzerna PO106FF is made for Mercedes Ceram-coat (nano-tech) paint. They use it at the factory to remove imperfections on the line and it worked great for me when I had to remove the swirls that the dip**** detailer put in when they dealer prepped the car. I used it once with a red pad when I brought the car home and it's been 8 months. I **** you not, my Obsidian Black is completely swirl and scratch free even though it's pretty much black. If you are getting swirls and stuff, it's to be expected on straight black but this paint is much harder than other paints.

The paint on an MB is one of the best in the world. The only grippe I have is the orange peel. Other than that, it's excellent paint.
