Does my 88 IROC-Z Convertible Count as American Muscle

I am the original owner - it is a 5.0TPI with a 5 speed - 158K miles with original clutch! I am looking for some help in determining what to do with it. It needs some work - and my wife wants it gone from storage in my garage.

Do I:
1) Keep the car, find a place to store it, pay storage and keep it there until I am ready to fix it up?

2) Sell it

If I sell it- looking for where I can find out how much is it really worth?

Thanks for the welcome...it needs

about $4K - $5K worth of work. has been in storage for past 6 years - I have only started her and driven her around my neighborhood once or so a year. Is not road worthy right now. But based on my research and thirdgen.org - these are going for $15K or so now in good condition..so I have a tough decision to make.

I actually joined 6speedonline because I am looking for a used 996TT or a C4S

158,000 miles on the original clutch ? Holy cow, you must granny shift..are there cobwebs in the exhaust too ?

I say sell it now if you think you can get 7-8,000 for it right now, as-is to save yourself the time and additional expenses that always come up on a restore job. Soon the 4 or 5,000 you thought it would take turns into 7,000 or more before its all done correctly.

An 88' Iroc? Uhh I tend to think you will have a very difficult time getting anything for it, they aren't exactly a desirable car. If you can get $5k I would take the $$ and run.

To 'fix it' man only if you absolutely love the car, never expect to get any return out of it.

your price guess is wayy high, i would take $1K for it and run away happy.

My G/F has a 2002 Z28 SS Vert. I told her if she sells it, I will buy her a 08 6sp 335i coupe. It is up for $14K and no offers as of now.

Value has been holding at $15K for ..

fully restored - check out ebay completed sales and thirdgen.org. This is a classic next year - and was a 3rd gen body style where there were only so many verts made - especially in a 5 speed.

Thanks.

Sorry but that's like saying some old desk is an antique... when in reality it's just old junk. Sorry but not many people consider an Iroc a 'classic' more of a hillbilly car from a time most would consider the low point in the american auto market.

just for kicks I checked ebay, the highest bidding car I found was $4500, with 60k less miles than yours.

Most were in the sub $2k range.

So like I said, unless you absolutely love the car and want it forever, don't put another dime in it, and sell to the first guy with cash.

Oh and sorry, just because it reaches a certain age does not make it a classic. A 69' camaro is a classic, an 88', much like a similar year vette, is just old junk.

The only car from the 80's even remotely close to being a classic is the turbo buicks, GNX specifically... even then it's a hard argument.

My reference to classic was..

that it would be 20 years old. I realize that it is not considered a true collectable 'classic' car ..at least not yet.

I understand that you don't appreciate this car - so I take your "old junk" comment with a grain of salt.

Thanks for your very helpful input.

I had an 85 Iroc Z HO 5spd in mint condition with around 50k miles on it around 9 years ago. I bought it for 5k and sold it for 5k 2 years later. The guy who bought it was amazed at the condition and was going on and on about how rare the options were and blah blah blah. So hey you might be able to find someone who will pay that much for it. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

1k lol have your girlfriend put the car on LS1tech if it isn't beat to **** I don't see how it wouldnt go for 14k. Back to the threadstarter in your situation I would sell it I think at most you could get 5k with those miles but its a vert me personally I haven't seen too many of them.
