I took my wife's S500 in today and they wanted $1500 for new brakes + $500 for flex service B + tags are due. I'd rather trade the car in than pay for service on something I probably won't keep much longer. The car barely rolled 19k miles and it drives like it has 119k miles on it. I absolutely hate the S500 but my salesman keeps telling me the S550 is a completely different car. Any opinions or feedback from current owners? Esp people that had the prev gen S class.

s550 or A8...my vote is for the S550.

S550. It is totally different from S500.

Drive it and you will understand.

 

Hands down S550 with the AMG package and P2. 7 Series is old news.

I will NOT buy another Benz. I have heard that the new S550/S63 is great, but I have also heard that a few people have had to replace transmissions, that the wrong glass was installed at the factory, etc.

 

Yup, MB quality has been in the crapper. My S500 is in the shop right now for a instrument cluster replacement recall, broken seat belt height adjuster, squealing brakes + regular service. The first model year of any car scares me but if I got one it would be an '08.

I made the mistake of test driving one today and it was VERY nice to say the least. A huge improvement over my S500!

The 750Li is out of the question. Been there, done that. I had a '03 745Li already and it's the same car with minor front/rear facelift. Loved it but no point going back.

 

New S class is a huge improvement

I had an S550 and absolutely loved it. No problems at all and one of the best sedans I have ever driven. Go S550 with Sports Package.
