Optimization admisson air Vantage

hello

Following a lengthy discussion and since no kit exists on the market, I decided to make myself a system to bring a greater volume of air in the box. I know some have directly pierced the air box, but personally, this does not convinces me for two reasons: first and we take the air under the car, ie where the air is the less pure (dust, water ,...), secondly, we do not take advantage of the dynamic effect of vehicle speed as in the original, namely, the higher the speed increases, the air is compressed in the air box.
I am enclosing a photo of the finished item. If people are interressése, I can show you how I do to make this additional admission. I would be happy to hear the views of professionals like Stuart on my solution.
Vincent

Looks interesting , the BMW guys install some sort of scoops to the M5,6 and M3. And I've seen some videos of comparison between stock and the ones with the scoops, the ones with scoops run faster at higher speeds.

How much does it cost to install this?
And how long does it takes?

Outstanding revision

Your design shortens, enlarges, straightens, and introduces ram air induction only hinted at in the OE hardware. A change I made was to enlarge the top center entrance from approximately 3"x7" to about 7"x7" by cutting away the plastic tube down to level with the top of the bumper. My Aston mechanic says his "factory" contacts say my larger opening yields +6hp, they tried it. Your system must be worth more, say +10hp. Considerations for your design is adequate air flow over the A/C heat exchanger immediately behind your passenger side duct as well as a rain water escape to avoid the chance of hydraulicing the engine.

Some news ... I finished up my "system" last night and I drove all day more or less quiet during my work and then I come back from a very steady round (highway and mountain roads). The result is just incredible! a much better recovery and a surge in high-rise disconcerting ease! One could say that the placebo effect, but the feeling is such that I found a little of my feelings 996TT Sportec. The response to the acceleration is incredible .... I would not at all offended if you do not believe me, I'll understand

In the next post I will explain step by step and picture how I'm doing.
Please excuse in advance for my English is not my native language and it gives me a lot of effort to be as clear as possible ...

Even for those who want to know the cost and duration of work:
Cost: about $ 50
Works: about 8 hours, the longest for me was thinking about the installation and implementation of parts (fit, size, angle, attachment, ....)

First removed the engine cover, simply screw torx
Then, remove the plate holder
then remove the grill (be careful about the screws in, there are two TIGS filletées with two nuts)
It must also remove the horn on the left side of the car. I could not get it back, because I'm changing the medium, the latter being hampered by the new air intake left

In short, you should see this:

another view:

This is where I will introduce my new intake area.
Why here? two reasons, first, the tube is flat and wide which allows a "handyman" for me to make a connection clean Secondly, the pipe dips down toward the air cleaner, and our arrival will be an optimum angle , Right in front of the descent.

Very cool! Did you take any pics of the parts? I might have to try this. Seems pretty straightforward.

I put a tape on the tube to draw the shape and cut the hole. For information, I had a vacuum hose into the inlet of origin to retrieve pieces of plastic

For cutting, I used a drill by the lack of tool, but a Dremel would be perfect
Then I sanded the edges to make the hole more regular

To fix it, I took my brackets shaped to give them the right angle and then secured with pop rivets

As part of the elbow, I provided in a health store to have the correct diameter. I know it's a little weird, but hey, it works
I took a long neck and I do heads of several angles so that I am fully in line with the descent of the air duct in the direction of origin of the air box.

To seal properly bond and elbows, you can use glue to the windshield or a special glue to Sika (hybrid)
Then, to ensure a perfect cohesion, we can put a rivet or a screw in each bracket.
Note: Can be seen on the right, the fixtures of the horn
