lightweight replacement brake rotors

hey guys,

While we are on topic of mass reduction, I'm looking for lightweight replacement brake rotors when it comes time to redo pads. I know brembo make rotors for our cars at 355mm and 330mm f/r . Anyone have the exact speca on stock brake rotors vs the lightweight 2piece rotors?

Weight reduction, my favorite topic

Light weight brake rotors...very desireable! Specs should include OE level stop distances, durability and compatibility with the balance of our car's production brake system. Only reasonable alt. is iron disc/aluminum hat referenced by 007, above. Weight save per wheel would be relatively small, say 2-3#, however, it's rotating mass and it behaves as much more. Carbon ceramic rotor economics today rule them out for me. My dream V8V hot rod, never the less, includes an entire V12V brake system.

The BBK is most likely the 6piston monoblock caliper with different piston diameters to work more efficiently with the 2pc floating rotors. The monoblock caliper is more rigid then a factory caliper giving you better pedal modulation as well. Generally there is large differences between Brembo GT systems and Brembo OEM. The engineering that goes into the OEM kits comes from the racing and aftermarket background, but it is not the same product. You can purchase Brembo 2pc rotors, hats, and hardware seperately, but I am guessing its not a swap if the calipers are different.

The stock is 4piston? why are you comparing then? The braking will be largely improved going to a 6piston.

BTW - I currently have StopTech pads on my Vantage. Have not used them on the track but worked well after 4 days of very aggressive driving on extreme roads in NC Mtns.

The StopTech pads feel "average" on the street - I would say feel fine, no difference than stock Brembo pads. I did not get any fade when hot - but again on Mtn roads not the track. I also have very high temp brake fluid - not stock. The pad dust was minimal, the pads do not allow the stock sensors to be installed (just tied back). The rear pads do have the "metal bar" imbedded in pad to indicate when exceded use (thin) - had not seen this in awhile !
Any idea of dealership price on stock rotors ?

Dualcast Brembo rotors

007, saw a new Cadillac CTSV coupe (556hp,4222# curb wt). Learned this is the third model year Cadillac has used Brembo 6 piston front, 4 piston rear brakes on 19" wheels with dualcast rotors on CTS high horsepower models. Essentially dualcast means just that, 2 castings, 1 aluminum, the hat, and 1 iron, the friction surface, integrally cast with no separate fasteners. Brembo lit. says the first road car application was the 05 model Maserati Quatraport Sport GTS, implying the concept was used previously, race car, truck? CTS coupe data says their diameters are 15" front, 14.7" rear. Brembo data says earlier CTSV models had smaller diameters. Could you introduce this dualcast technology application potential into your Brembo contact conversations?

Lightweight Rotors, more info

007, AM presumably evaluated the issue we are discussing for their OE application. About 2-21/2 years ago I remember seeing an assembled "conventional" two piece rotor in a picture taken during the Vantage's development. AM had to have been the picture source...Brembo, the part's source. Cost/benefit analysis, as we know, dictated one piece rotors. Actual photo timing, unknown. Dualcast process development may or may not have been production feasible at decision time.
