Thanks for the quick reply and I agree. I think anything over 20whp would be amazing.

The throttle lag is in the software, I will explain it full how they managed to do it ... i too thought it was flywheel but after doing the math I realized its not.

I was quoted well above 30 crank hp but want to reserve judgement until the results come out. Redline will be 7500.

I just wish I knew what the engines real rev limit was, 7500 is def safe but this car needs more revs than that even ...

For any kind of racing you want to keep max HP to the wheels, so its very important to be able to shift somewhat beyond the peak HP, which we can't do now. As it is now, when you shift at Peak HP ~7200RPM (380 HP at the flywheel) you drop down the HP curve from 380 to 255HP shifting from 1st to 2nd, and from 2nd to 3rd from 380 down to 300HP. More RPMs let you stay further up the HP curve at each shift.

Can't wait to see your results. I too have felt that that car is very rich. There has to be at least 30RWHP with a decent tune. Good luck.

How is the proposed tune going to be installed on our cars?

no worries. this is definitely a very informative thread for all of us, except 007 (he's the one doing the most informing). At any rate, you can easily get around 30 rwhp with just cats, a filter, and the current RSC remap. It would be interesting to see the incremental gains that 007's custom tune can do. I imagine the gains would be even proportionately greater given that it will take the leaning out of the afr due to the better breathing of the cats and intake into account. I've been trying to decide between the 997 GT3 or the vantage for my next car and being able to wring some power out of the vantage would go a long way in helping me decide.

And yeah, it would be helpful to rev higher so the next gear falls higher in the powerband. The engine being quite peaky exacerbates this effect.

Rumor has it the engine & cams were originally designed for 8000 rpm but was pulled back to 7200-7300 for longevity reasons. Our cams don't even fully open up until 5000 so the power band is really only 2200rpm wide in stock form. Obviously Aston wouldn't put cams in the car that exceed its natural limits so ....

If I had to guess I would say power peaks at around 7500-7600 rpm, add an additional 200rpm post peak, and you are looking at a realistic redline of 7800 most likely. 8000 is a bit too extreme and I would never want to push it that far, but 7500-7600 seems totally reasonable and well within the engine's threshold. 7800 would be iffy, I can't risk that unless I have direct confirmation from somebody within AM themselves. The one benefit of the 4.3L is you have a higher rpm threshold due to its shorter stroke so these motors can be pushed harder than the 4.7ls and can compensate for the displacement disadvantage... all this is of course theoretical. Until somebody tries it (aka me) we won't know for sure, but I'm up for the challenge

I will see just how much power can be squeezed out safely. Another added benefit he said is roughly 2mpg improvement in fuel effiency amongst many other benefits.

More to come ...

007,

Great work, I can't wait until you are done! Are you getting this done locally? I hope so ... will be very convenient for me.

Yes it is locally ... even better for you . Once you guys hear the price and benefits I'm pretty sure everyone will be sold on it. Took me a while to source a custom tuner that can tune astons but I think I may have found the perfect solution...

"8000 is a bit too extreme and I would never want to push it that far" Just a guess, but valves may begin to float at that RPM. However Piston speed should still be OK. Seems like I read somewhere, maximum Piston Speed permitted is about 60mph (or 5280 ft/min) At 8000 RPM the V8V 4.3 would only be 51mph (or 4496 ft/min).

Ya thats why I said 7800, even then the lifters may not be able to keep up at that point. Usually 7500-7600 is the threshhold so its a good safe target. Most manufactures put in a good 500 rpm safety margin (7700rpm)

I saw CD = .34 and FA = 22.5 sq ft

I believe it is to allow crazy americans to put 87 octane gas in the car and drive it around without warranty concerns for AM. Cooling with fuel is primarily for forced induction applications. This car does not have wideband O2 sensors. It calculates open loop fuelling from the MAF, calculated load and base fuel ratio tables. This is corrected by the LTFTs in KAM generated in closed loop(1/2 throttle up to 3500RPM). Here is the commanded open loop A/F ratio at WOT.

Thats actually decent compared to mine ... I hit 10.5 at 4000 and it flatlines from there, ridiculous lol. It probably gets down to 9.5.
