Vantage S seats ....

Hey guys,

I'm debating about upgrading my seats. I obviously want an OEM option so its either DBS seats or the Vantage seats (which are probably identical minus the stitching).

Any idea how much they cost? I know aston says they save 17kg (about 42lbs) but to me its more for the look and feel of having very sport seats. The stock seats are nice but they just aren't as sporty as true bucket seats and the weight savings is quite significant (I want the highest power/weight ratio so I want to start taking out as much weight as possible).

any info would be appreciated.

Go for it if you can. AM may limit the seats to Vantage S serial numbers but it's worth a try. It might look silly to have 'Vantage S' badged seats in a non-S, and they will probably be $3K+, but the weight savings would be nice.

On a side note, in the Vantage S if the seats save 40+ lbs, the transmission saves 50+ lbs, the rotors save 4 lbs, the wheels are lighter, the body work is lighter, and it has the same engine, why does the car only weigh 66 lbs less than a stock 6-speed?

Also...I've been wanting to do this swap since they first appeared on the V12 but it hasn't been possible. Let us know if you find anything out.

I think the lightweight seats are made by Recaro, mine look very much like these, but without the holes for the 6-point harness.

The beauty about the aston vantage s and v12 and dbs seats is they are fully functional with the electronic base so you dont lose functionality. You can still raise , lower and tilt the base. You just can't recline the back or use limbar (and you do lose airbags as well I believe) ...

Something tells me the new transmission is actually heavier and all the other stuff is done to compensate for the extra weight. (They did same with v12) to compensate for the extra weight of the engine).

Either way you can easily take more than 66 pounds out in fact I think 150lbs is relatively easy if you do the right mods. That should bring you to about 3400 wet weight, which is certainly no joke these days.

Actually R&T reports that the SSII is 53 lbs lighter than the previous SS due mostly to switching to air cooling instead of liquid cooling.

They don't say what the weight of SSII is compared to the 6-spd manual but AM doesn't list a different weight for for normal SS vs. manual so I'm assuming they're the same. I'd guess SSII weighs less than both of the other two transmissions.

Well the math certainly isnt adding up lol ...

Its seems though that 90% of the stuff aston is doing to ours cars can easily be done on existing vantages for a fraction of the cost.

Are these seats US legal? I know that the lightweight seats were not available when I ordered my car. I wouldn't expect a V12V S. I don't want to sound like a broken record but without addressing traction, more power and less weight won't be significant in early acceleration. Having said that a 7-speed sports shift with shorter gearing would be very interesting. I had an epiphany. There were spy shots of what was supposed to be a V12V roadster. The car had paddles on the column which to date has not been married to a V12. The S must have been that car because if you look at those spy pics, there weren't any vents in the hood which is necessary to fit the engine. I have a feeling that this car is a bridge to a more advanced V8 with HP headed towards 480HP.

You cannot upgrade any pre-MY10 Vantage to the Lightweight-Seats, thats what my dealer told me.

The Lightweight-Seats do not include Side-Bags so I'm not sure if they will be offered in the US.

The feeling is superb, the best thing in my V12V beside the engine of course.

Not yet

Here is one of my favourites, taken at the "route de crêtes" in the mountains of "Les haut vosges" in france last summer.

Countless wonderful roads to drive there.

I wonder what the reasoning is. ... if you update the seat mounts & rail it should all work in theory
