I also got the Mower Deck one for my Jag XKR, and I like it. BUT, the mounting plate is not as long as the license tag, and consequently the license is regularly bent by everything coming in contact with it.

The US Millworks unit I had on my 911 was the same size as the tag, making it a lot better, IMO.

I'm getting an AMV8V soon. I'm in Texas so I'm going to chance it w/no front tag.

The only instance I've heard of involving someone getting stopped for no front tag, was when a cop followed my girlfriend in her Porsche to her house. I think we all know what the deal was there.

One excellent thing about the tow hook method, you can remove it and re-attach it in a matter of seconds.

The "Front End" (whether Wheels or Skirts) is where most of the beauty is. I'll not mess up the front of my Vantage with a license plate. It's worth it to get a cheap "fix-it ticket", to keep the front unencumbered as it was designed.

I've got pulled over for only one reason, no front plate, the cop even said"you did nothing wrong, I pulled you over because you have no front plate" I happened to be leaving dinner, and ya I had a few drinks, lucky I was not cited for either!! BUT I do not want to give the cops a reason to pull me over!!! I made my own holder, its simple light and very sano, painted everything the frame and some of the plate the same color as the car, I'll post as picture one of these days. those store bought things are Fugly!!

I view it as a tax. In MD it's 60 dollars and I'm to the point (over the years) that the cops that pull me over share a laugh with me about how there is no way they can let me off because of the last X times I have been pulled over. They always seem to understand why I don't have a tag on the Aston but 5+ years of no front tag and probably 1-2 tickets a year doesn't give me a free pass

With the first AM, I ended up getting pulled over 18 times in the first year (I kept count) I was doing anything wrong with the exception of my front plate was missing, which gave them an excuse to stop & do all other kinds of checks. In the end, it just wasn't worth the hassle, so the plate went back on . . . such a shame, hate that damn front plate!

Every week, I see other motorists running red lights, blowing through stop signs, speeding in school zones & making all sorts of illegal turns - I truly think priorities are not in line with the needs of the community !!!

^^^ I got one w/in weeks of getting the car and came to the same conclusion. Also hate the feeling of being pulled over in the car next to a busy st and having the passing motorist speculate as to the nature of my crimes. If I'm getting a ticket, I want it to be for a good reason

WELL they got me today. Came outside after meeting my brother in Minneapolis for lunch, tore off down the freeway to realize there was something flapping on my windshield on the passenger side. Oh a F***ing ticket. $108 for no front license plate. I guess the guy did not like it inside my windshield, most in the past have let that fly.

Thank you very much. I'll probably go in and talk to them about reducing it. If your going to take my money, I'm going to make you spend as much as you have to to get me to pay up.

Could of sworn I wrote something on this..couple AM clients we service from Ontario now have them after telling them about it..I did not do the install, client must have done it.. There front motorized plate frames.. push of a button and your plate is in plain sight..not something new, there are a few companies making them ..

So does anybody know which of the automated holders is:
1) The most durable?
2) The thinnest?...our vehicles ride very low, and I don't see any setup withstanding a decent lip scrape
3) The most quiet? Some of the youtube videos sound like a garage door yelling at an Officer, "Hey, look at me!"

Can't help on the most durable..but I usually see 2 models..Show-N-Go and another ppl pick up from americanmuscle.com (there all universal) ..they all look the same in thickness and design. I see them just secured to the undertray with self-tapping screws, with a connector to unplug when the undertray is needed to be replaced for servicing.

Possible solution

Having just bought a Vantage this past Sunday, I'm looking at front plate solutions myself. I has one of these on my Porsche and it worked flawlessly, basically took this product and flipped it upside down to mount in the small oil cooler are above the chin spoiler on the Porsche. Its held onto the car with commercial grade 2-way stick tape, and you can take the plate on and off with two wingnuts:

http://www.topflightrepro.com/corvet...brackets.shtml

I will have to look harder at the Vantage to see if it will work. This is a no-holes mount and looks nicely finished with one of the painted frames. Might be worth a look.

Stay away from the motorized disappearing ones. They're for Hot Rods, and can only tolerate speeds up to about 80 mph before wind pressure rips them off.
