lowering springs performance
Hey,
I'm getting some different answers from my local tuning shop about the performance of lowering springs. Certainly on this board I have read that most all agree that the lowering springs will improve handling/cornering ability. My local tuner shop says otherwise, that just lowering the car does not necessarily mean better performance handling as the car was engineered with handling to match/ride height and lowering the height could alter those dynamics negatively???
Does this make any sense?

That is correct in a sense, but in reality if you don't go too far it isn't a problem. Ideally, the springs should be matched with shocks or you might end up with too much harshness in the ride due to lack of compression in the shock. Lowering a car almost always does improve handling to a point...if you go too far, you obviously lose a lot of driveability on the street as well as risking going beyond the designed geometry of the suspension and mounting points. But lowering the center of gravity in general is a good thing.
The lowering springs for this car didn't increase harshness in my experience...the car is completely drivable on the street, even when the roads aren't the best. A matched coil over setup would be ideal and adjustable, allowing for street and track settings, but if you aren't going to change the setting the springs will probably be just fine.
