Stock brake pad growls after track day
Stock brake pad growls after track day
I put in brand new stock brake pads on my V8V just before her 1st track day (which was costly
), found them a bit on the soft side and initial bite was not great, but didn't have any fade problem. However, afterward the brakes started to growl when stopping above 40 mph, not quite noticeable when stopping at lower speed but still a bit of noise. My local mechanic who changed the pads (who is really into racing) tested it and said it may have been overheated, suggest driving it a bit more to wear down the burnt layer and it may go away. Then I took it to the AM dealer and they actually took the pads out and checked them, said they are all cracked (which in fact may have been just multiple surface cracks) and should be replaced. They further said that the stock pads are not good for track and they suggested Pagid pads.
Does anybody has experience with stock pads on track and have this kind of problem? Does anybody think driving it a while longer and the growl will go away? I mean it's more annoying than anything, and the car still stops (yes I tested it at 80mph and slammed it), and I know a lot of you guys still have to live with brake squeal, but mine never made a noise before I changed the pads.....
In the future I am thinking about getting some Pagid blue, I won't bother changing pads just for the track. Some other Vantage owner suggested this and he uses his on both street and track and they make minimal noise. Any comments?
