V12V Carbon Black Confiscated . . .
It's just a small part of why society is in such a mess today, lack of personal responsibility. You bought the house at a high price, your fault, you pull out (the action) w/o checking your mirrors, your fault.
Your logic protects people who assume.
You're welcome.

Yes, if someone merges into a lane when someone else is barreling toward them in that lane at speeds exceeding the posted limit by 100 mph, the person merging really does deserve to die! Makes perfect sense.
Lane discipline ------------------> they are called passing lanes
To repeat most belgians are less than 1 hour from the autobahn, I believe they are quite well trained to check mirrors before entering a PASSING lane. If not the border area would littered with corpses. I already said the guy phucked up when exiting, but most of his ride was between 100mph and 130mph, watch it again full screen and check the speedo.
This IS LEGAL and many sections of the Abahn are only 2 lanes.

Personally I think 125mph would be the best top speed on well built roads, but the germans seem to survive.

And according to the data the Autobahn has fewer deaths per mile driven than the US Highway system.
Driver discipline NOT speed is the key safety metric. Well trained, disciplined, intelligent people never assume.

You continue to take positions in an argument that we're not even having. I am not advocating against the Autobahn. The Autobahn is completely irrelevant to this discussion and I love that there are still sections of it without a speed limit. I'm also not advocating against driving fast. I love driving fast, when you can do it without putting other people's lives in danger. Regardless, you do not seem to be able to grasp what I'm saying, so it's pointless for me to continue trying to express it.
I just hope that your wife/girlfriend never makes the mistake of merging into a lane where someone else is driving 100 mph over the speed limit. If she did though, I guess the resulting accident would be her fault and not the guy driving 165 mph on a 65 mph highway, right?

This is the argument we are having, the nanny state posts an arbitrary limit and the sheeple believe that is an excuse for being lazy and irresponsible. Not checking mirrors, signaling, staying to the right.
Usually the losing side of this argument add in children in addition to the spouse. Why do german wives/GF's seem to survive on 2 lane roads with as much as 150mph+ differentials?

Also I always look both ways at intersections even though the Govt. has hung multi-colored lights above me. Under your logic, that green light guarantees me safe passage every time.
Nothing personal racer, just that the righteous, speed kills mantra, is factually wrong and always has been. Just another bit of freedom being taken away and a victory for mediocrity.
Yeah, from your continued references to Germany and the Autobahn you really still don't get it. Alas, looks like you just want a soapbox to go off on an anti-government rant anyway so I guess it really doesn't matter to you.
Interesting discussion . As a Belgian used to drive hot and sexy metal (now in the US suffering through all these stupid drivers that put make-up on and change diapers while texting, drinking a Latte and sitting in the left lane) and where so many drivers's previous car was a water buffalo or a mule. I can tell you that the European drivers just have the discipline to drive in the right lane, check their mirrors and change lanes only when it is safe to do so. How difficult is that? It's called driving over there. I wish we could import that skill. I am thinking that a good solid test before you get handed out a driving licence combined with 40 hours of driving lessons by an accredited school would keep the wackoo's off the roads. Sorry to be so pedantic about it. That is just the truth and I am sticking to it.

I have to agree and disagree with some of the arguments here... I live in Germany and drive daily over 150mph. Yes, Belgium has a border with us. Yes, their highways are as good as ours. But no, they don't have the same reactions. That doesn't have to do anything with superiority, only with routine. Yes they travel abroad. But in their daily driving they don't have to adjust to blazing fast speeds. Belgians are NOT EXPECTING cars coming that fast on the passing lane. Yes, they are very disciplined drivers. But they will see a car FAR AWAY and some will assume they can change lanes. There is a huge difference if the approaching car is driving 90 or 160 mph!
And by the way: in Germany, if you drive faster then 130kmh (112mph) and you get involved in an accident, even if the other pulled out in front of you, you will still be held responsible for a part of the damage. Even if you were allowed to! Because you weren't driving defensive enough.
Then again, I can't see much danger in the video, either. His biggest problem is that he is in Belgium though :-)
Oh, and confiscation of the car has something to do with the car being used as a weapon. Very common in France, don't know about Belgium...

Not making a comment on the Autobahn or driving on it, but this story ran today on Jalopnik about an 52-car accident on the highway:
"Three people are dead and thirty five injured in a 52 car crash in foggy weather on Germany's Autobahn. The pileup took place at 7:15 last Friday night by Gronau, near the Netherlands border. From the wreckage spanning several hundred yards of the Autobahn, fourteen of the thirty-five injured were hospitalized. One woman and two men are dead.
Even with best-in-the-world driver education, it's still possible to find drivers going too fast for road conditions."
