"Belgian police tracked down this speeder after he posted a video online of a 182 mph joyride in a $257,000 Aston Martin. . . . Those gleaming, proud numbers on the speedometer could cost him not just his license and $4,774 in fines, but also his car, valued at around $257,000. The police were able to identify the driver's license plate number by checking through other videos of the special edition Aston Martin V12 Vantage Carbon Black the speeder had posted on Facebook. It's as if the damning evidence was just being streamed straight from the passenger seat to police computers."

Don't be so hard on the guy. He just did what we all wish to do; drive a million miles an hour! I don't believe they should have right to take you car. Take your license, sure, but not your personal property. Just my opinion.
It was here (in Europe) in the media all the time. As his face is not shown in the video, the Police can not identify the driver. Theoretically someone else could have driven the car.
BUT he was so stupid to mention in the video he is the owner of this car and that there are only 3 cars like his one available in Belgium.
So yes, very stupid….

I have nothing against speed, but driving through traffic at these speeds is irresponsible. All it takes is someone to merge into your lane without realizing you're approaching at over 150 mph and you have a tragedy.
Love the Doors music in the video, it makes me want to go fast. The thing that kills me is how difficult it is to get a run half that good here with the poor condition of the highways and the traffic. May be I'm just conservative, but it's hard to sustain speeds over 100 for very long before you come up on people or other distractions. Then again this ding-dong doesn't seem to worry about that kind of thing. It is stupid to make yourself so identifiable though. I haven't seen another V12V in any color in my neck of the woods. So if I ever posted something crazy, it wouldn't be hard to find me.
I just watched the video, only 1 point where I would say he really did something dumb and that was the rapid lane cross to get on the exit road. Other than that, yeah more traffic than anytime I have pushed my car, but europeans in general are much better, more disciplined drivers, from what I hear. (meaning the other drivers are not likely to pull out into a fast lane like they might here.)
That behavior is an everyday, every minute occurrence on the autobahn.
Great selection of music for the task. Great looking interior. Car seemed to handle the speed very well. Nothing on that tape clearly identifies the guy. A small fine for the exit and perhaps directions to the nearest autobahn for this guy.
What is the statute of limitations on speed infractions?
I thought of this after watching the video: speed, europe, great music = http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3742416.stm

You live in a congested state with sub-par roads. Some of the nicest roads for this behavior would be found in Vermont, NH, and Maine. and other places too. Some incredible stretches of smooth pavement, amazing scenery, and no people.

This didn't happen on the Autobahn where such speeds can be expected. This happened in Belgium. Even if the drivers in Belgium are better than those in the U.S. (which is likely true), they are not expecting someone to approach at over 150 mph. All it takes is one mistake (e.g., meandering into the left lane) and everyone involved is dead.
I am well aware of it being in Belgium, have watched many video's from that country going back years. Have had many discussions of this subject going back many years.
Since Belgium borders Germany, hence the autobahn, and since under the european union, travel is unrestricted AND the distances are trivial -- DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE there is a light switch equivalent of driving talent that occurs as soon as you cross the imaginary border line?

Please be real. Why be a defender of the nanny state, the dumbing down of everything for the laziest and the stupid. If someone pulls out into the fast lane w/o looking, they are at fault NOT the fast car. That is why I said this guy made a mistake on his lane change.
A little history lesson for you -- not only Germany had fast highways, 25 years ago I would watch the first years of Formaula 1 coverage on ESPN. The host was John Bisangno. They filmed him in his car heading to a track in france I believe doing 120mph in a sedan saying this was normal. The 1989 intro of the 928 GT was a half hour special on Motorweek where they were doing 160+ for over an hour on the Autobahn.
As a kid, my family and I were driven routinely at 75+ in this country in much less capable cars as the limits here were higher. All this big brother nanny state crap dumbing society down for the incapable. Too much big brother. Make the ignorant improve their skills -- 1 accident caused and limit their license to slow lane only.
Belgium is that tiny red place, you can cross the entire country in 1 hour and most of its citizens can be in Gemany in 30 min. I would say that most belgian drivers are aware of cars doing 150mph + and are not the dunces behind the wheel that so many american drivers are.
