Door locks

I've developed the typical door latch problems. It would seem that there is a new service bulletin related to this:

Installation of New Type Door Modules to Older Vehicles Subscribe
Reference: SB-19-0334

Does anyone (irish07 maybe?) know what it says?

There is a few symptoms for different fixes..that bulletin is just if the door module needs to be replaced, you cannot fit a newer module in pair with a old module..so thus you would have to replace the right and left door modules if one is to fault

..whats is the concern your having??

The locks aren't locking with the remote. Definitely the driver side, not sure about the passenger. I have to lock, unlock, then lock again to get it to actually lock. In addition, often times when driving away the auto-locks will engage--I can hear them click--but then when I park the car and get out the door is unlocked (only need to pull once to open door).

Usually the door that locks then unlocks right away is the good one. The other door that locks then doesn't unlock is the faulty door..to me that would be a cable or latch..or both the cable and latch..

So for example if you lock the car and can hear the drivers door lock then cycles unlock..and the passenger door locks but doesn't cycle..this can indicate the passenger door is not giving it's signal as closed thus the drivers door unlocks..kinda like locking the car with a door open

This doesn't blame the latch at fault nor the module yet..vehicle will need to be scanned for faults and have the micro switch datalogged..if no faults, the interior handle cable to the latch will need to be disconnected and see if fault is still present ..if no longer present, cable is at fault..replace damaged cable

If the concern is still present after removing the cable but door latch is "not" heard cycling to unlock, this would sound on track of the module, but you would have codes stored..then both modules would need to be replaced if all wiring was good and no power present at latch..this can usually be temp fixed by doing a hard reset on the questioned door module..unplug connectors and reconnect..could be 5min fix..could last 2 years..might not even fix it at all if the module is badly corrupt..(when the module is at fault you can also see the windows loosing there memory for when opening doors)

If the cable did not solve the concern and one latch is heard cycling and the other latch is heard locking..sounds like the latch that is locking is not feeding it's msg "closed"..

If when you drive away and the drivers door doesn't lock but is heard trying to perform the action, but isn't heard cycling unlock(kinda sounds like your situation)..sounds like the cable is bent not allowing the latch to lock, or internal fault with latch... cable would need to be inspected for damage(bent, pinched), if not certain of a damaged cable, swap the cables to the other doors and test..if fault is still present on the same door..internal fault with latch

Hehe..not the easiest thing to diagnose without a diagnostic comp like Aston's AMDS

Aargh! So I assume I should have a dealer check this, as opposed to leaving it to my independent? Wish I had a dealer I could trust... Is it possible that my independent has the right equipment? I did have a service required notification message showing that they were able to clear.

The service emission msg is for engine P codes usually, which can be scanned and cleared by a scan tool other than Aston's AMDS..the door locks are operated by the door modules from the CEM module, which I've not seen a aftermarket scanner to get these codes..some can be read but not all

You can try ur garage if you wish..but depending on the labour cost and time they take, might be faster at your dealer ..latches can be done in under 2hrs easily if you know what your doing(not including diag)..but if the fault comes to a module..dealer only for the new file software will be sent from aston and uploaded by your dealer for the newer type door modules

OK. I guess it'll be off to the dealer one of these days. I'm trying to get all of these little things taken care of.
