from porsche...am i looking at similar reliability factors in the vantage as with porsche? can i trust this car for long trips around europe? i appreciate all the input so far, guys, looks like another group of interested/informed owners here as well, cheers, kk
Short answer is yes ... whether it's a byproduct of the Ford era or not, the Vantage has generally proven to be a reasonably reliable car ... certainly more so that some of the models immediately prior (the Vanquish comes to mind).
... and if you check out this book, I think you'll find a wealth of interesting info to help out your decision.

I have owned 2 911s and 2 Astons and still have one of each. My 964 was much better built than my DB7 >BUT< my DB9 is far more reliable than my 911 (996). A Vantage is as reliable as a DB9 - so you'll be fine!
You may get a few more squeaks and rattles in the Aston but that's because it's a hand finished relatively low volume car.
I did 10,000 miles in my 2006 car last year, crossing Europe several times and it never missed a beat. One rear window rubber replaced was all (it's a Volante). Heading to Monte Carlo in it in a month and then Le Mans in June. No hesitation at all!
