Front End Damaged on new Vantage

Pulled up too close to a curb and hit the curb. Loud cracking sound. Got out and took a look and noticed that one 4 to 5 inch section of the front bumper is damaged. Paint chipped and cracked and a noticeable bend that separates it from the plastic underneath.

I'll never get that close to a curb again!!

Any idea on how much roughly to get it fixed?

Is the bumper the same composite material as the fender? I know the fender is $1300 from the dealership and needs to be replaced if it cracks. At least that's what the AM certified bodyshop told me.

The lower front bumper is plastic. You need to get it painted. Dont know the cost though, sorry.

The bend in the plastic might be because of the metal under tray. You can have any competent mechanic pull off the tray, pound it back into shape (it's just flat), and reinstall it in 5 minutes. If the tray is bent, it'll be pushed up into the plastic bumper, causing the plastic bumper to look bent. Once fixed, the plastic will go back to its original shape. The plain black plastic lip is pretty much a wear item and shouldn't be expensive to replace if it needs to be.

In all the above, the plastic bumper I'm referring to is specifically the thin lower lip portion below the lower portion of the grill.

And this is just based off what you said... If youve got a pic it'll be easier to tell you for sure, though.

The paint will be the expensive part. The lip is warped like that because of the under tray. Like I said, that's a cheap and easy fix. You probably won't have to replace anything. You might get lucky with the paint because of where the damage is and you might be able to repaint a small area to fix it.

Try to take care of the under tray quickly so the plastic doesn't get permanently warped.

As mentioned above, straighten the under tray. Don't bother painting it yet (it's not that bad) -- wait until you've whacked it a couple more times .

That is one of the reasons I upgraded from the 08 to an 09 to get the front parking sensors. However even after have 2 two of these cars and knowing I should stop sooner than my eyes tell me, I still sometimes scrape my front lip spoiler. I wonder how you guys with the "S" types or extra after market carbon fiber spoilers do it. I like the look but experience still shows me that I will be wasting my money. Maybe I just need to go ahead and bolt on a $1000 piece of carbon fiber to give me motivation to remember.

The front parking sensors work great, when they're on. There have been several times when I have pressed the parking sensor button while pulling forward and it has either not turned on or has canceled because of the speed of the car. And it's difficult to see the button to make sure the sensor is on in a MT car because the stick obstructs your view of the button. That's how I damaged my CF splitter:

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-splitter.html

The moral: If you have the front parking sensors, always make sure the light on the button is illuminated when you're relying on them otherwise your false sense of security may cost you!

i have an '07, so i don't have front parking sensors. i recognized what orlanderlv was talking about because i did the same thing he did about a month ago. mine didn't crack the paint, though (yay). since then, i've gotten VERY careful about pulling into a parking spot. i've gotten over the "i hope i don't look stupid" feeling of sticking my head out the window to check where my car is in relation to the curb. i'd rather look goofy with my head out the window than have to deal with beating up my front end!

Update! I had the dealership take a look at the damage and they had a repair person come and see if he could bend the bumper back in place. He could, and while it isn't perfect you'd have to look twice to see any bend. The paint was repaired perfectly. Not bad for $400.

There seems to be some odd rattle now in the bumper but i'll have them check it out when I take the car back in for a replacement part soon. I've had a lot of issues with this car, most not my fault. Hoping that it doesnt get worse from here.

I have a JagXKR (getting a V8V next week) and I always back into parking spaces, using my rear sensors.

Very difficult to judge the front visually.
