Spark Plug and Coil Options for 07 V8V

Hi Guys,

During my last visit to my local indy shop, my friend/mechanic Mike took the coil/plugs out for a quick inspection and as an opportunity to do some teaching. He mentioned to me that the coils are a fairly standard Ford/Mazda design, though calling his Ford supplier didn't turn up anything that matched the part number. He warned that these aren't the highest quality, then again that was expected..... Here's a picture for fun.

Then he took out one of the plugs, and told me that it's still in decent shape, but could use new plugs in probably a year or so. The part number seemed to read LFR7N10 (was a bit dark at that time).

Does everyone here use the OEM spark plugs? What type of options do I have? I'd like to avoid dealership prices.

Well I guess you could get some aftermarket plugs. Never heard of anybody using a specific kind. The part number is 6G43-07-10056-PK. Has far as the coils go, yea ford/mazda design. That 6B2095 number is the date code of the coil, there might be newer coils out, but no change in design.

Thanks for the info regarding the coils. Are everyone on the forums using OEM plugs? Anyone went with after market? I'm just curious if there are aftermarket ones would be a good fit. Plan to DIY the change at my friend's shop after-hours.

Does anyone have the generic part number for the Vantage spark plugs?

( 6G43-07-10056-PK is the Aston reference number. )

Cant find anything on any spark plug website either that covers Denso, Champion and NGK.

Specifications Page 11-2 of my '07 Vantage owners manual (USA) indicates that the spark plugs are NGK-IFR7N-10.
Set at a gap of 0.35-0.40 inches. (0.9 - 1.0 mm).
Check your specific owners manual for any changes regarding model year...

Just been in touch with sparkplugs.co.uk that have every NGK , Denso and Champion plug listed and the spark plug part number is not valid. There isn't a listing for a Vantage spark plug alternative either. I have been recommended to visit main dealer. There must be something else available…

I spent a few minutes on the NGK website and found the following information under the 2007 Jaguar 4.2 V8 listing:
OEM Laser Iridium P/N = IFR5N10
Iridium IX P/N = BKR5EIX-11
Gap = 0.040"

Aston Owners Manual plug ID = IFR7N10. Must be a OEM Laser Iridium plug (and a valid number)! Perhaps a different heat range? Gap = 0.040"
Conversion to Iridium IX P/N following Jag example above = BKR7EIX-11
Checked the NGK P/N to Stock Number sheet and, lo and behold, there is a BKR7EIX-11 plug available - Stock Number 6988
No guarantees, but if I were a betting man, I suspect the plug is correct for the '07 Vantage engine...don't know the relative costs as compared to the dealer, but at least it is a place to start...

Has anyone installed or tried out the "alternative" iridium plugs? I am at about 60K miles and would like to swap plugs out soon. Local parts suppliers are clueless when it comes to the car so going in with some sort of direction is always helpful.

Stock ignition is good for 500+HP, there is no need to upgrade and potentially mess up reliability, just go with the factory recommended parts
