RSC Filters = Check Engine Light??

Well I just got back from having a 2 year service/fine tooth comb inspection done on my Vantage, in which I opted to put the RSC filters on the car instead of the stock paper filters.

Driving back north to Los Angeles from San Diego everything was fine, although I did note a bit of a backfire at one point but didn't think anything of it.

I've put almost 180 miles on the car since they have been installed but this morning when running an errand, light pops on and says "SERVICE EMISSIONS SYSTEM"

I called my tech and discussed the issue with him, we both came to the conclusion that when I filled up on gas I didn't properly keep the cable from getting in the way of the cap seal and that's what was causing the light.

Well, I fixed the gas cap (which did in fact feel a little loose) and have driven the car almost 7 times (all today) and the light is still on.

Is this normal for the car to take this long to reset?? Or, could it be the RSC filters (and their pre-oiling) may have caked up the sensors? (I had this problem once on a Porsche I owned).

Any advice would help!

Did a little more research....

This is what I've found.

I've been really 'babying' my driving style and when I took her out this morning (already after having a warm engine) I was a little aggressive with the throttle.

This is when the light came on.

Ideas to reset?? (still new, sorry!)

it can not be because of the RSC filters!
By cons, if the air boxes were improperly raised or probes not doing well, is possible.
And sometimes it comes on for no reason, it is a known defect of Vantage. There are post about it in the forum.

In this situation I can 100,000% guarantee this is not as a result of the air filters. If it is the gas cap issue, which is not uncommon then it should go away reasonably soon. Or you could have the dealer reset it for you, or a friend with a scan tool!

My dealer stocks RSC filters and will use them at customer's request (and even suggest them) instead of the OEM filters-- I had the RSC filters installed during my recent annual service.

Not that it matters to me, but I didn't know the filters were "pre-oiled" and if so, the oiling would be so light as to not get on the sensors.

I haven't had issues with the RSC filters myself but I've had that message come up in all sorts of circumstances be it gas cap, extreme weather changes, or change in driving style. Usually clears up after a few goes or couple days.

What would be useful is to see the actual diagnostics message. I grabbed a GoPoint cable over Christmas which connects into the ODBII port and into an iPhone or iPod Touch. Install the free GoPoint app and it provides msg info as well as ability to reset. Has some other really cool features as well within the app in terms of stats and real time gauges. One of the best tool s I've ever purchased.

Thanks Guys. Bought a 480 diagnostic tool for 30 bucks on Amazon last night, probably due to my quick driving style change.

Also, it's not advisable to follow the factory 3-year replacement guideline that applies to the OEM paper filters. I spoke with a rep. from Green, the manufacturer of the RSC filters, and they advise cleaning the filters once per year, regardless of mileage. Since I don't have easy access to a lift, I am purchasing 2 pairs of filters and swapping out them out at the yearly service intervals.
