Brain-Dead Vantage

While driving my 2009 V8V to the gym this am all the electronics first locked up.

The CD player was playing, but I was unable to adjust the volume or turn it off.
The in dash display was frozen, the clocked stopped, the turn signals did not work and the nav would not rise. The heater fan could be adjusted however.

I turned the car off, waited, restarted. Now the radio wasn't working at all, and no other systems worked as before either. The car ran however, so I drove it directly to the dealer where it sits now.

This thing's brain is dead big time. I'll let you know what the diagnosis and fix is when they figure it out.

I have had this car 6 months, put 6,000 miles on it (now at 18K) and this is the first time for such a problem. The battery was low two weeks ago so I charged it up a bit. Maybe that scrambled a few bits in one of the on board computers, but the techs at the dealer said probably not. Hard to say.

Sounds like the battery needs to be replaced and not just charged up.

I have to agree 100%. A guy I work with had his entire dash on his Cadillac go black and then blink and flash and was completely unresponsive but the car still started and ran fine. He charged the battery only because he was told it might be the battery and that didnt work. So he bought a new one and everything worked again.

And if anything ever goes goofy just take off the battery connections and reconnect them - it's like a hard reset for the car. Window's wouldn't work - did that and they worked & and I did it another time for something else.

Usually my daily driver, a few weeks ago the car sat for about 2 weeks without much driving. It was after that it did not start and I charged the battery; then it started fine.

Since then it is back in daily driver mode and the battery appears to be fully charged all the time. It turns the car over very rapidly and there is never any dimming of the lights for example.

Control Module

The dealer ran a diagnostic and found that the central console control module had developed a short and was defective. A replacement unit was drop shipped out of the UK and on site in a few days.

I am not certain what all this controls, but this expensive little item was covered under warranty and all is well again.

Seems strange that it would fail, but I suppose it happens.

BTW, the vacuum pump that runs the exhaust valve was also replaced. The car was behaving as if fuse 22 was pulled, which caused some complaints from the neighbors. Dealer stated he had never seen one of these go defective before.

Oh yeah. There is a neighborhood internet forum and they post complaints and comments about kinds of stuff. They don;t have anything else to do.
