Window Tint

Good afternoon friends:

I have a 2013 Morning Frost DB9 with Black Interior. I was quoted $795 by the dealership to tint the windows. I thought that was very high. I need to know your thoughts and suggestions as well as how dark I should go. I live in Louisiana and bought the car in Dallas.

thanks in advance,

Jeet

OMG! I was charged $165 by the guy who does the window tint for the dealership to do the windows on my Vantage. However, the dealership did say they would have to charge me more if I went directly through them to hire the same guy. This was because then they would be required to offer a warranty for his work through the dealership. So the service dept told me I was better off going directly to him and offered me his phone number.

I paid $349 recently for the top-of-the line ceramic tinting at Sunbusters in Austin. They include a lifetime replacement warranty against any scratches or damage. They do most of the high end cars in this area. You should be able to get a much better deal.

Not all window tint is not created equal. Cheap and dark does not necessarily mean quality. Unless you just want to darken the windows consider using Crystalline from 3M. This tint not only blocks the UV light (extremely important to protect all the leather in our cars) but, it also blocks a VERY high amount of the heat. It's not cheap but, I have it on our Jag and on my Virage (on windshield too). It's amazing how much it reduces inside temps when the car sits in the sun... I paid over $500 to have each car done. It's thicker than standard tints and harder to work with...

I also got the ceramic tint. Don't remember the cost, but it wasn't cheap.

I was considering the ceramic tint as well. Does it darken the windows at all?

^^ depends on the % tint you go with. There are tints that will darken like "Limo" tint and there are tints where you cannot tell the window is even tinted at all. There are limits on how dark you can go in some states. Here in NC, the legal limit on tint is 35% (blocks 65% of light) unless of course you are the "law" and then the limits do not apply (read sarcasm).

Mine is what I'd call tastefully darkened. It's not blacked out, but it is clearly darker than the naked glass. From my understanding, it provides the same light blocking of standard tints that are twice as dark.

thanks, can either of you post a pic? The ceramic tint sounds like the best solution for sure.

$795 is robbery, that is the AM tax, the dealer figures if you can afford an AM, you can afford to pay $800 in tint. Take it to a local tint shop, regular 3M tint should run $170 and ceramic about $350, at least that is the price here.

The beauty with ceramic tint is that it reflects more heat and UV rays than even your darkest, dyed window tint. This means that you can use a 50-80% ceramic tint and not have it affect your visibility at night while reaping all the benefits of regular tint. For our shop cars, we used ceramic tint on both the windows and windshield.

A local shop called Unique Auto Films has been doing all our ceramic tint for much less then dealership quotes with warranty. Ask for Farzaan and let them know we sent you if you are in the los angeles area.

Why? Is cost the driver? I've had lots of cars and all were tinted and the 3M Crystalline product is the next evolution in window tints.

Here is a link to some info about Crystalline: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...omotive_Films/

Only draw back is tint is not that dark:

My concern is that I live in a smaller town with very few experienced tinters; I'm afraid that they will mess the back window up. He did come down $100 to $695, which is still high....but I really have no choice
