Odd tire fault warning yesterday

Yesterday I had a tire fault light show up assuming I must have run over a nail, or maybe a slow leak from sitting 5 weeks waiting for my plates after it was shipped from Newport Beach AM. I was surprised to see that all of the tires were over-inflated! One rear read over 50 lbs, the others all about 45 lbs. When I checked them the tires were warm, so I guessed at slightly over where they should have been, after a few minutes of driving the warning went out.

So the tire fault system works for both over and under inflation!

That's cool to know. I suspect elevation changes and such could effect pressure in a both a positive and negative direction as well.

We are 1000 feet above California coast, so might be a factor

I've been told that properly set TPM's will work in both directions. I'd like to hear confirmation to that being a fact. Here in FL we're always near sea level. Thanks

Pre flight inspection? You should have checked the pressures before driving, COLD. 5 weeks of storage? Sounds like it was good that the tire pressures were @ high levels to avoid "flat spotting". The tire fault message will also come on, if the car is idling stationary for 10-15min.

During the 5 weeks, i drove it within the office complex, not on the street, so it was in semi-storage, not cold storage. It was a certified aston used car, i assumed that meant all pressures and systems would be up to date and properly set up on delivery, however, you are right, I should have rechecked pressures before actual driving.

That's correct, I'm sure this is why the TPMS light was on..car idled for to long while stationary..

The SmarTire system will NOT give a warning for over-inflated tires pressures, the Beru system WILL give a warning light in the dash and store a code for over-inflated tire pressures.

If you have the TPMS module in the passenger foot area and color rings on the tire valve stems, you have the SmarTire system ..so obviously if you have NO module on the passenger foot area, you then have the Beru system

Light came on while you were driving? Or when you turned on the car?

If this starts to happen again or often, you need to get he color of the light that is flashing or that is steady on the TPMS module in the pass foot area..If you can tell me the lights that are on(Power and/or wheel sensor) and color(amber/red ..etc) ..I could then tell you what the module is seeing to trigger the dash fault light to come on ..aka faulty part, bad sensor, low pressure.

If you just start the car and then check the module, you will see the Power light and the sensor lights flashing amber to retrieve the sensors ping'd..you would need to drive the car minimum 10 minutes over 10kph, stopping can make detection last longer. Once all sensors are found and established communication, the sensor lights will go blank and the Power light will stay steady amber..this is a normal operating system with no faults

irish07, Is it possible that both systems exist in the car. Thus the tire indicator in the instrument cluster is activated with or without the foot well receiver indicating a tire issue ? Thanks

If all the module lights go off..module has lost power, in the old systems if module loses power the dash light will go off..the module triggers the light in the dash

There is a white plug to the module inches away, make sure this is secured, if it is secured, play with the harness that you see going into the back of the module, if you see the module lights come back on and then a beeping noise..you've found the fault, faulty connector cutting power to the module
