Aston vantage oil leak (timing cover seal?)

Hi, im having issues with timing cover leak. I am having a local porsche mechanic fix the problem. Can you give me any details on the fix. Labor hours etc. Also, does the engine need removed to fix this or can it be done with engine in tacked? Any details would be much appreciated.

Mike

If anyone knows, what actually is the problem with the front timing chain cover seal?? There are millions of cars out there with timing chain covers that don't leak. One would think that Aston would have found a true solution years ago. If someone has a leaky cover and it is 'repaired' does that mean it is going to leak again in xx thousand miles?? Maybe Irish007 or some other Aston expert knows the answer as to why this happens. ???

The quote sounds low. There were two repair types - a cheap one and a more expensive one (as documented in the link above this post). A lot of repeat leaks have been reported on the cheaper fix. Very few have been reported after the more expensive one. Plenty of articles on this forum about both.

Has anyone been given an explanation as to WHY this leak occurs? Obviously, it requires replacement of the timing cover gasket but his problem has been around for years on the earlier cars and apparently affects some of the newer 4.7 engines as well. What steps, if any, has the factory taken to cure this problem? Also, has anyone had to go through this repair procedure more than once!

It typically leaks at the tri-joint area on the top of the motor due to a poor design. Yes, plenty of people have needed repeat repairs. I think redpants found his leaking again before he crashed the car. The engine & car are end-of-life / end-of-sale so there won't be a redesign to fix it.
