DB9 Volante Project Elise Phase 1

I haven't yet formally introduced myself here, so what better way than to introduce my first mods to my '06 DB9 Volante...her name is Elise after Jane Seymour's character in Somewhere in Time.

I followed the advice of more than one person and changed the springs from the very soft stock units to H&R 29148 Sport Springs...WOW, what a difference! I ran some of my favorite spots to compare the handling and the car is so much more planted and where it wanted to leap from the ground before, it now stays in much better contact with the road.

On smooth roads the firmer ride is not at all harsh...and on rougher roads while feeling considerably stiffer over bumps and of course grounding easier (1" lower) but that's what the skid plate is for. I am thoroughly pleased with the way the car takes a set into corners and stays planted once I've chosen my line. It doesn't wander on uneven surfaces like it did before.

For those of you who pay attention to alignment, for the front I went -.7 degrees of camber which is slightly more aggresive than spec to keep it within 1 degree of the stock rear setting which is -1.7 degrees. To compensate for the extra camber, the caster was set to the lower end at 5 degrees. The toe-in is .05 left and right with a total of .15.

On the rear we went spec camber of -1.7 degrees as mentioned above, 0 degrees of toe, right in the middle of spec.

I have yet to install the rear bar, but I did put the Sport Pack front on to take a little understeer out of the car...the early Volantes don't have a rear bar, but it is standard on later years.

I did put on a fresh new set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports as well, which I prefer over the Bridgestones, while also saving a few pounds of weight at each corner...less unsprung weight is always a good thing.

Here are some before pics of her at Laguna Seca...I won't have after pics until early 2014, but you can clearly see the suspension at both ends of travel in stock form...

Diving into the corkscrew...

Heading for bottom of corkscrew and suspension travel...

7 stories of drop nearly complete...

Elise and Hilda together for the first time...that day I picked her up..

Great Pics, and always nice to see someone enjoying the ride and how you choose to mod your car.
Thanks for sharing, and congratulations on the addition! PLease continue to keep us posted!
Most lower for the look, thanks for sharing your experience in the performance difference. Has the smaller nose clearance caused trouble?
