Hey Tim,

Interestingly, on both of my Astons, the rear brakes have always been more dusty than the fronts which sounds counter-intuitive at first until you factor in stability control. On cars such as the Esprit which don't have DSC, it works the way you would expect with the front wheels getting dirtier sooner than the rear.

So, in order to fully prove your theory, you really need to put a set of Carbotechs in the rear and Porterfield in the front and test if your hypothesis still holds true.

Interesting test! I still have some squeal at low speeds and purchased a set of Porterfields. Hopefully these resolve the squealing issue for me.

Good thought Karl, but the stock Porsche pads dusted much worse on the front wheels. I also remember a post saying the parking brake pads on the rear wheels of Astons sometimes dust because they are loose and can rub the rotors. Carbotech can make those if you send in the old ones and I believe EBC reds are available for it as well altho I did not have a good experience with the reds and dusting several years ago on a different car.

I think the parking brake story may be an Internet myth.

I finally got around to installing the Porterfield R4-S pads this weekend. It's too early to say about dust but I haven't heard any squeaking or squealing at all, and the pedal feel and stopping power is good on the street. So far they seem like a great choice.

I have the Porterfield R4s pads on my Evora they are a great street pad with minimal dust. Very smooth and progressive pad with virtually no initial bite. Though they are a great street pad I really would not recommend them for track day use. I was seeing a 3-4 second longer lap time on a 85 second course due to pretty significant fade after only 1-2 laps (I was waiting for my R4's to come in and thought how bad could it be) if you plan on running track days pick up a second set of R4's and swap prior to the event. They will eat your rotors if you try to use r4's on the street for more than a trip to the track.
I was planning on going with the same combo for my V8V.
Stuart can you get R4's as well?

I've been running around with the R4S pads for a couple weeks now and this is my impression as well. Great pads for normal driving but the lack of initial bite is disconcerting for me because I'm so used to aggressive pads (even the setup on my daily, a 4Runner, is really aggressive). For most people the R4S pads are great, but I miss having that initial bite.

I'll be picking up another set of track pads when I get around to it.

I have a new V8V and purchased (but have not yet installed) the RS4 pads. Low dust is my goal. Does Carbotech make the 1521 for my car and would it produce even less dust than the RS4s?
Thanks

They Do, but I no longer endorse them as you have to get brand new rotors for there to be no dust or noise. Otherwise they will create a lot of noise. BG stop squeal on stock pads did seem to lesson the amount of brake dust a little bit, and certainly eliminated all the noise.

My car has only 200 miles. Would that make a difference?

Saturday I replaced my OEM pads with Porterfield RS4 from Stewart. This was the first time I've undertaken a job of this level but it was very simple. By the time I got to the rears it took longer to position the jack & remove the wheel than swap the pads. My car went from having a constant low speed squeal to the sound of silence. I didn't apply any BG and will monitor for the next few hundred miles.
