Break in time....

Is there a "break-in" period for the Vantages? Is so, how long, or how many miles?

I think its generally accepted to properly break in a steel walled cylinder, its about 1000 miles. I also think a lot of the exotics break their engines in , at the factory to a certain extent.
it would be interesting to hear from someone that knows.

The manual for my V12 Vantage says 1,000 miles.

What does this mean? Not revving beyond a certain RPM?
I can tell you it's damn hard to drive this car slow

I was under the impression that the engine was already broken in at the factory but not the clutch? IIRC, the manual seems to mention something similar.

During the break-in period of 1,243 miles (2,000 km) and/or whenever the engine temperature is below 104°F (40°C) the ECU automatically prevents maximum revs in order to protect the engine.

This applies to both the V8 and V12.

They are test run rather than run in for any length of time

I wonder if you also have to keep varying engine speed, too

Follow the manual. Avoid sustained or higher revs. Vary road and engine speed. I was taught that the first 10 km or so are most important, with large throttle openings and plenty of backing off the throttle / engine braking desirable for proper break-in, but I'm no mechanic or engineer.
