Brake fluid for Aston Martin Vantage

I am looking to do a brake fluid flush on MY07 Vantage. I see that the AM uses Castrol Dot4 brake fluid. I wanted to see if it's okay to use ATE Gold Type 200 Dot 4 brake fluid instead. Has anyone here use ATE for their AM cars?

I also want to do a clutch fluid flush as well. Do you normally do this the same time as the brake flush? Thanks in advance.

I ran Super Blue (same stuff, but blue) in a BMW 3-Series I had for a while. No problems. The OEM Castrol is actually really good stuff, if that's what you're worried about.

Rich -

Thanks for responding so quickly. I was not actually worried about the OEM Castrol brand. I actually 2 Liters of the ATE Super Gold in my garage that I purchased months ago for my Porsche but never had a chance to use it. So I wanted to use it for my Vantage now but just wanted to make sure it was okay on these cars. I've also used them before on my other BMWs. Thanks.

I used Bosch Dot4 to flush the system when I changed to Porterfield Pads. I think a good brand Dot4 should work fine.

Gold 200 will work fine, if you already have them lying around might as well use them

The best fluid on the market is Castrol SRF, nothing else comes close. But gold 200 (aka super blue without the dye) will work just fine and is better than stock fluid.

Thanks for info. Do you have any idea how to flush the clutch fluid? I figure I should do this while doing the brake fluid flush. Thanks.

Yes you should do the clutch fluid as well. The clutch fluid you have to undo the line closes to the pedal box and push the clutch pedal in to force out all the fluid. Then close the line and pull the pedal up SLOWLY to allow the new fluid to fill in the line. You may have to do this 2-3 times just to get all of the old fluid out.

Hope that helps

You might want to check out the new DOT 5.1 brake fluid. It is not silicone based and is compatable with DOT 3 & 4. It has a lower viscosity to work better with antilock braking systems, it's boiling point is higher than DOT3&4 and it's moisture absorption rate is lower. There are numerous brands out there. A quick Google search will return a lot of results.
