Does USB charger drain battery?
Does USB charger drain battery?
Hi,
If I keep USB CIGARETTE phone charger inserted all the time in my car cigarette charger does it drain the battery?
I see that even when car is off if I connect phone to it it will start charging phone. Is it only for few minutes or those charger sockets are always live and active?
Thanks.
PS MY car is 2009 DB9 volante

A lot of cars keep the courtesy circuit powered for a few minutes after you open a door or shut the ignition off, etc. Sit in the car, plug in your charger and connect your phone to it. Close the door with the windows rolled up, don't touch anything or insert the key in the ignition and wait five minutes and see if the phone is still charging and you will have your answer.
Slightly off-topic, but my daily driver is a 2011 Mini Cooper S Countryman, and I'm beginning to occasionally get an "Increased Battery Discharge" message. Yes, it could be a thousand electrical gremlins at work, but it could also be that the battery is now coming up on five years old and I've spent the past couple of months driving the car mostly to and from work in the cold with my headlights and heater fan on.
Anyway, several other owners have recommended that locking the Mini's doors (with the remote) shuts down battery-draining processes that otherwise continue. I've confirmed that I don't get the battery discharge message when the doors are locked, even when it's parked outside at work in freezing temperatures.
I have no idea if Aston Martins work the same way because mine's on a battery tender whenever it's not being driven, but I thought I'd pass this along anyway.

Ok I tried both. I connected USB adapter to cigarette lighter. USB adapter has red led.
I closed all windows and locked the car with the remote. Waited10-15 minutes, red LED IS STILL ON. this is a bummer.
What I recently did was to avoid seeing iPhone charger cable in the car
I open the center console, removed cigarette light connector (one in front of hand rest , where there is a small lid) I connected USB adapter, shove the whole thing underneath , took the iPhone charger wire behind the radio console and brought it out from the one of AC VENT. When not in use I can push this wire back in the vent . Only problem is if this sub adapt stays powered on all the time then it might drain the battery.
What do you guys think?
