Well that didn't last long. I guess Porsche had a hissy-fit about the name of the new car (even though they got their name from the actual racing class). So rather than try to battle them, Aston decided to discontinue the new GT3... name.

From now on, the new car will be referred to as the Aston Martin Vantage GT12.

I guess 12 for the number of cylinders and because 1+2=3

I don't know why an SUV maker like Porsche would care what somebody named a sports car.

 

I have a Porsche but I think it's BS for Porsche to fight the name. In fact, I hate them for it.

Perhaps Aston should say something about Porsche's naming of GT4.

 

Porsche knows Aston doesn't have money for courtroom cat fights over names. Therefore, they threaten a little, and get what they want.

When I first heard that Aston was calling it a GT3 I wondered how they would get away with it. Guess they didn't.

 

Well Bentley got away with naming their car GT3, but of course they're both owned by the VAG so they can get away with it. Especially ironic is the fact that Lotus used the GT3 name first. This is just Porsche being a big bully.

 

^^^ while Lotus probably won't take on Porsche for the GT3 name, perhaps Ferrari should take on Porsche for GT4 and GTS names. Dino 208/308 GT4 & GTS in the 70s. If no one does anything, Porsche might as well claim the ownership of Turbo and GT2.

 

Porsche is still sour that Citroen or Renault took the names of all cars with 90X hence the 911, or at least this is the story that I heard as to why Porsche always uses the 91X designation for cars.

X being the last number of the model, no literally an X because then it would be a Saab :-)

 

Maybe we should have a whip-round and throw some money in the kitty to buy Porsche a big tube of Vagisil.

 

And some boxes of Midol , Pamprin & Premsyn for all the Porsche directors/Lawyers etc .

 

Comical. GT3 is an FIA race series or more accurately a set of rules for a category of race cars. I guess Porsche figure they own the copyright on the whole damn thing - wonder what the FIA thinks about that? Would have hoped that Porsche would be above this sort of stuff, and would have been secure and content in the knowledge that from a strictly performance based viewpoint, they still wipe the floor with pretty much everyone else, Aston included.

 

This maybe true however .........would you rather .
A- drive a suped up VW beetle with a VW exhaust note + rice rocket exhaust mods ...... think VW camper ********' wagon or .............
B- drive a hand built British Masterpiece with an orchestral exhaust note that brings its owners out in goosebumps and make their spines tingle every time they get behind the wheel . ??
