My owners manual (V8V 2007) states that 5w-50 is an acceptable oil if 10w-60 is not available. I don't see how it would be a problem.

Are you sore from paying the bill on that ?? Hope they used 10W60 to lube you up first lol ...
Not a chance of me ever paying a dealer to do an oil change or any other basic maintenance .

I called two Aston dealers in FL and both said the latest V8V spec is for Castrol Edge Syntec 5W-50 part # 06250. Roughly $11/qt

The dealers are both in FL, so not sure about cold weather conditions.

Been running it for the last 30k miles. [I am sure there have been some advancements since they wrote the owners manual for my 2006.]

I cannot imagine it would be a problem, but AM does state that the oil used (in the V8V anyway) should have an ACEA A3/B4 rating. Edge Syntec 5w50 does not have this rating, other weights of the same oil do.
