AM rear camera upgrade?

Has anyone actually purchased / installed the Aston Martin rear camera kit? (part #DG33-37-10701). It requires factory Nav (which my 2007 V8 Vantage has), but also must be installed by an AM dealer as it requires a factory configuration file.

Curious on experiences, if it's worth the $3k or so with installation.

Alternately, I've seen third-party backup camera kits for the AM (eg. http://www.tadibrothers.com/catalog/...-camera-system) - interested if anyone has installed one of these, and comparison with stock AM kit?

Thanks in advance!
- Paul

Hey Paul - as a similar reference/ballpark figure, I just got the upgraded BT module, p/n FD43-37-10142, installed on my Rapide...

The dealer charged me $284 under 2.0 hours of labor. Probably took them 15 minutes to install it and flash the car.

I bought the module online for $530 (MSRP is $725).

AFAIK, the dealer is the only place you are able to do this (if you are going with the OEM option).

Thanks for verifying. I'd still be curious on feedback from anyone who has had the A-M official rear backup kit installed.

I have a 13 with the factory camera that views on the Garmin screen. The image quality is poor. Is is possible to simply upgrade the camera istelf and nothing else? Sorry if this is a hijack, I'm not sure.

also curious about this upgrade by AM. How is the performance as in the speed of camera turning on when you shift into reverse? I get that it takes a few seconds to turn on the screen (i never turn it on because it's useless) but assuming the screen is always on, i want to know how quickly it switches over to the camera mode.

Not really off-topic ... If the image quality is poor in the MY13 factory camera, I'm sure it would be the same camera in the A-M upgrade that I was considering. Aston Martin's website claims their camera has a 170-degree view, "zero-lux" light sensitivity and anti-fog coating:

What really has my curiosity is how the AM rear camera upgrade compares to this DIY in the A-M FAQ, which is significantly less-expensive:

I will take a photo of the image and post it. Actually I'll take two. Day and night.

2010 rear camera added

I have a 2010 V8V and added the rear camera. If you leave the nav screen up/on when you turn off the car, the camera image will come up on the screen right away when you throw it into reverse after starting the car. The image quality is okay/fine, no directional turn lines, however.

I thought I would use it more than I do. The dash lines looks so much nicer that I leave the nav off/closed most of the time and just use the rear parking sensors if I'm getting close to something (like driveway gate). But if I'm in a tight spot, it's definitely nice to have it. Since my car is newer, it didn't require any other upgrades prior to install that the MY 08 and older need. Cost at the dealer was ~$1500 with labor.

Thank you! This sounds like I’m better off going with the DIY backup camera kit mentioned in the FAQ link.
