Trickle Charger: boot light?

Trickle Charger: boot light?
Hello all,
I recently bought a battery conditioner (for my 2008 V8V).
I did this:
- put it in the socket in the trunk
- closed the boot fully
- closed the car
A few day later, I opened the boot, and noticed that the bootlid had slightly damaged the cable. Not bad, but I don't like it.
So, my question is this:
When I do this:
- put the charger in the trunk socket
- leave the boot open
- close the car with the remote
- let the bootlit gently rest on the cable, without closing it.
Will the light in the boot go out? Or will it stay on?
Thanks.
Ps, my English is not the best

I don't close the boot lid on my charger cable. I just gently let the boot down so its closed but not latched.
The interior lights (boot, seat buttons etc) will all shut off by themselves in about 5 mins of inactivity.
How do I know? I spend many days in the winter sitting in the car just enjoying the smell / seating position lol, some times up to 45 mins at night.

Thanks guys for your replies!
I also tried this once: with a screwdriver i closed the lock myself (you know, pushing the latch in it's closed position), so that the car would think the bootlid is closed.
But now, since you guys told me that the light goes after a few minutes, I just close the boot gently and leave it open.
