Skid plates for V8 Vantage S?

Need some advice regarding skid plates...

- Do you guys install any skid plates to protect the carbon fibre splitter/bumper on your Vantage S? I am paranoid that I may scratch it in random places (especially since I am in San Francisco)

- Since there's no official ones, do you all just ask the shop to custom make them?

- I was quoted USD $400 before tax for the skid plate (3" wide, 1/4" thick for just the front splitter) and installation. Is that reasonable?

- Any places that you can recommend for installation of skid plates in the bay area?

I was thinking about having one custome made as well. It seems like it should be an easy piece to make using the splitter as a template.

A new carbon fiber front splitter for the V8VS from Aston Martin is about $6,500 and it is inevitable that will get damaged eventually. I'm going to start getting some quotes as well.

I did came across that listing. It is so rare that I am not sure what is a reasonable price to consider and whether it is a worthwhile investment.

I'm now is San Francisco as well with my V8VS and I understand your concerns about scraping! I have to put out ramps to get in and out of my garage

I remember seeing a posting about a guy who made custom skid plates. I'll do a search when in on the PC and send you a pm if I find it.

My concern about adding the skid plate is reducing the height of the car further, resulting in a higher chance of hitting bottom.

What is the weight and material of the 1/4" piece you were looking at? I'd like to know if they can make something closer to 1/8" or less

In for cheaper alternatives than the $1000 one from V Collection...

Did anyone end up finding anything a bit cheaper than the one from the VCollection?

I ran into Ming who owns a 2011 Cobalt Vantage S at the last Blackhawk car show. He sourced his skid plate from the Los Gatos dealer for around $400 if I recall.

It was a small hard plastic like piece about two inches wide and maybe a quarter inch thick.

I also talked to Ming and heard the same thing...but when I purchased my car in Dec 2015, Adam did not know of this part. $400 for this poly 'skid' strip (maybe 1 inch wide x 1/4in thick) vs $1000 for the V Collection aluminum one that covers the whole bottom is a real toss up.

There is a chin splitter made by "chinsplitter" .com that is made especially for our cars, is made of 5052 aluminum, and comes in satin black. It is the same unit sold by others, but buying direct from chinsplitter it can be had for 33% less. Rules prevent me from posting the price or an active link but if you search for "chinsplitter" .com you will find it.
