Sub and amp problem & location

My problem is with the sub cutting out in a roadster. Interestingly enough, it's mostly not working and occasionally kicks in. When it does- wow!!

Ideas? Need to fix this as the Premium sound isn't sounding so premium since I bought it. Also the location of sub and amp would be great as dealer quoted $800 just for diagnosis.

*from what I've seen, the workshop manual refers to another document
*location of sub and amp? Does the workshop manual show how to access?
*best way to get the manual? Is it to download it from the site recommended on this forum?
*how would I use a multimeter to trouble shoot?
*when in finally I'm in there, can I upgrade the sub?

Thanks all.

Thats crazy that they want $800 just to take a look! I would pull the stock sub and check the speaker wires to see if the amp is sending any power with a volt meter. The premium sounds is OK but not great, I am still trying to figure out what I am going to do with my system. The base/sub is very peaky and there is a big hole in the mid-bass. Having only 4" drivers upfront is not helping.

Yea the price is absurd. I'll get in and start testing today. Keep us posted as to the solution you come up with for the mid bass.
