Talking Fabspeed 200 cell CATs installed

Hey Guys,

I love modding cars and will never really leave anything stock for too long. One of the things I love about sports cars is the sound and the Vantage stock just did not do anything for me. I went to pull fuse 22 and discovered it had already been done I am coming out the 964 that has such a mechanical sound with solid lifters, combined with a 200cell CAT, G-Pipe, and no water in the heads. Easy problem to solve with new CATs and a muffler I located a couple of mufflers to try on eBay, a Quicksilver superSport and a VelocityAP Sport X-pipe. I then called Fabspeed to have them make me some CATs. I have used Fabspeed CATs on my 964 and 993 with an X-pipe and like that they use HJS cores.

The install was easy, just a little harder on Jack Stands. I had a buddy helping me so I did the back muffler while he pulled out the CATs.

Some tips for anyone else trying to DIY the job.
  • Bolts on stock cats and headers are pressed in they dont need to be removed
  • On an early car I only had to pull the bottom trim panel on the back bumper
  • H-pipe is easy o move back off CATs if back muffler is out
  • Little extra pipe on H-pipe that is movable to make CATs fit responds very well to PB_Blaster. It was fused together and PB_Blaster made it easy to move into alignment
  • When install springs/bolts on back muffler attach one bolt and then use a C-clamp to pull the plate into place for second bolt.

The car really does wake up after getting the CATs on. I ended up trying the VelocityAP muffler first and the combo is very nice, so much so I am not even gonig to bother trying out the Quicksilver(its for sale for 975 shipped). The system has a great tone with no drone at all with some nice little pops and snap on overrun. My but-dyno feels the power increase and the motor spools up much quicker when you blip the gas to rev-match on downshifts. Totally happy with the improvement, this makes the Vantage feel more like I wanted, a bit more emotional to the senses.

One final thought, everyone should take the time to do a little work on their Aston Martins. Totally impress with the design and engineering of this car, it's like every part is a work of art.

Cheers
Daryl

Very nice! Congrats. I can really relate to what you said regarding build quality.. It really is such a pleasure working on these cars because of this.
