Ticking noise Vantage
Ticking noise Vantage
Hi,
my Vantage produces a strange and embarrassing ticking noise.
It sounds like a nail in the tire, depended on rotation speed and temperature.
I took the tires off and couldn't find any nail or visible issue.
My car was two weeks in for service and the dealer couldn't reproduce the issue. My guess is since it was colder the last few weeks and the ticking requires warm weather.
When I picked her up, it was gone on the 30 miles back but the Friday last week it came back.
Does anyone experienced the same issue?
I just took a video in the parking lot on the way to work.

What makes it even more strange, AM replaced parts for close to 3k preventive to eliminate the ticking when I told them about it.
My car still has the AM warranty and I rather have this done as long as the warranty is good.
From the brief view of the rear wheel, it looks like it's spinning too fast to match up with the ticking noise. That should eliminate something in your tire or wheels. My first guess would be something to do with your belt.
Also it disappears when I turn left and is louder turning right.

says it was rear brake shoes
"Rear brake SHOES. Not 100% sure, but since your car has 4 wheel disc's - the rear emergency brake is a pair of brake shoes inside the rotor hat. The friction material delaminated from the shoe and the clicking & ticking was the material bouncing around inside the rotor hat. Remove the rear wheel, caliper and rotor (with e-brake OFF!) and take a look peek!"

I had a ticking noise coming from my left rear wheel a few months back. I would gently pull on the parking brake while moving slowly and it would stop. I adjusted the parking brake cables and the noise has not come back. The driver's side was looser than the passenger side. I am not quite sure how that was the cause but it has not come back.
Nope but the dealer did replace them last week when they tried to fix the problem.
That is my guess and what I communicated with the dealer, it is also hard to identify where the noise is coming from. The dealer replaced the rear bearing but I guess it is the front wheel bearing.
Good guess but we don't have brake shoes as Redpants mentioned.

Did you have a look at your front caliper, the spring plate that is held by the 2 pin. Mine was making similar noise when turning and it was that little plate that wasn't sitting properly and was touching the disc. If you take them out you will know right away as you should notice the rubbing on those spring plate.
