So my struts on my bonnet have been getting worse and worse. Went to a local parts store (Pep Boys) and had him eyeball the closest fit of what they had. He let me take one out to the parking lot and install it before ringing me up. Kind of nice that some places still do that.
They are about .75 inches longer than OEM. Same manufacturer as the stock struts. The bonnet opens a bit higher than stock but it isn't adding any additional stress to the hinges.
Thanks for sharing. I have been keeping a Word doc logging all of the replacement parts for our cars. This way when the time comes I have a reference and can avoid the dealer. Just added this to my list!
I can understand going for aftermarket or parts from a Jag or Volvo for certain high priced items, but saving $20 here makes no sense, esp since the OEM struts have the nice SS bodies.
Im just happy to see that others do have garages that DONT look like some magazine article with fancy patterned floors and all kinds of art on the wall and tool chests that look like furniture etc etc .
black would actually match my engine bay better, they fit Vantages as well?
No idea. Pop one off and take it in. I just made sure the ball socket ends were big enough to fit. Most had a large and a small. Needed two large. And then as long as the length was within an inch I was good to go.

Ha! I'll take that as a compliment. Hey we all make the best of what we have. My wife said "You're not going to hang that picture in the house are you?" I had to bust out a wall just to get mine to fit in.

I don't have access to my car at the moment, but were the OE struts marked with any pressure rating? I know you said, "The bonnet opens a bit higher than stock but it isn't adding any additional stress to the hinges." I recall some story about a Porsche guy bending his hood/bonnet by installing the wrong pressure rated struts. Just a thought.
Interesting thought. Another reason I love the forums.
So, no real specs just a warning in 12 languages.
Slowly cycled it a few times. I'm not having to force at any point and in my opinion it's putting no undue stress on the bonnet.
Important on pressure as I told off my door structs and wondered wow...Still good as no leaking and could bearly move...New Structs I could not move at all....If you bend our hoods etc with Structs rated for our doors...Think of that cost to fix...Rich sells original ones at a fair prices...
I checked the struts in the boot and under the bonnet, no info about pressure. In the pictures, those are struts for a Porsche 928 rear hatch and clearly state 40 lbs. force. They are the same size/length as the hood struts, just different force. So how do we tell the force of the different struts on the Aston? That is if your going with aftermarket.
