any of you guys into guns?

random car customization thoughts over the weekend....

i sometimes go shooting at the local range and since we drive Bond cars, wouldn't it be cool to fabricate a hidden gun compartment in the trunk? something that would make the trunk look completely stock when you first open it (so the panel would have to be carpeted on top)... but then you notice the floor of the trunk is actually a couple inches higher than where it normally should be... and voila it swings open to reveal a compartment with foam cutouts for all your anti-zombie countermeasures. and if you want to really get fancy, add in a fingerprint scanner and gas piston hinges.

anyone do something like this or know of a shop in the northeast US that could fabricate something custom?

By the way------ I try to run from the Bond thing at every chance. Yea, its cool, until someone says "oh, you must think your Bond" or something close. Hell, my tag even says I am not Bond (NOTASPY)

1. Find a carpet warehouse and search for a Black carpet that will match the trunk.

2. OR, Buy a Trunk mat from AM bits, and then make your case to that size, so that matt is on top. I would do this, and then put regular black carpet on the sides.

Buy----http://www.casecruzer.com/guncruzer/ar-rifle-case-42.html

(even if a case fit, and you laid the matt on top, it still would be pretty cool)

Something like that for the insides. Then create a rectangular box fitting the dimensions of the trunk width wise, either a wood (using 1x4) box, or find hollow vinyl bars or something of the sort to make the container with.

Piano hinge for the opening mechanism, and use HOOD shocks for the top lid for opening.

Use the custom or pre-made pick-n-pluck gun organizer for the insides. Capert the inner lid with the grey thin carpet material.

Put in trunk, put matt on top, and there you have a concealed gun case.

I had one, no pics, but had one in my Suburban when I was active in LE, and had an Ar-15, 4x mags, and 2x handguns and 4x mags. Had a slot for flashlight and spare batteries and a FLIR handheld.

I made mine out of 1x4s and the bottom from 1/2 plywood. Top was same, then carpeted in the grey thin carpet. Then the pic-n-pluck insides. Was perfect.

I just have a handgun on my at all times, so no need to have one mounted in the Aston.

IF< IF, I ever did anything, I would by a under trunk lid mounting bracket for a Ar-15. One where when you open the trunk, its staring you in the face. So all you have to do is grab it and enter the action.

Best Place I know------- Drivers door kinda in the lower pocket. Mount a Blackhawk holster to the door that the handgun slides into. That way, your right hand can come across and get to it even when you are seated and bring into the fight if needed. Or if your exiting the vehicle, the weapon is in its holster right where your right hand would go leaving the car. Either way, its a good spot. But, not going to screw holes in my door.

Just some ideas

If you keep them loaded it better be a really good concealed compartment, or you could find yourself concealed in a dark place for a few years

Mine are always loaded All but my pocket one has a round in the chamber. No point in not being prepared.

However, not all people are trained, and not all have a badge so there are concealed carry laws to worry about even with cars.

But, the trunk box, is fine or should be fine legally unless you live in a "gun free zone" or drive through one. Its a locked area, unaccessible from the cabin of the car. Likely wouldn't be loaded there either.

I'm not positive about PA law but as long as you don't pull a Josh Huff and blow a joint doing 75 on the bridge in your Bentley with a loaded 9 beside you, you'll probably be OK. But once you cross the Jersey side any loaded gun is a violation unless you have a concealed carry. So in your trunk it still must be fully unloaded.

Have a Krieghoff aluminum gun case in trunk of my 2012 Virage. Their cases are so beautiful you do not want conceal them. However, they are very slim and it would be easy to construct a carpeted false floor if desired.

I left my gun slinging days behind when I left the army. I don't even own a gun now.

Are they even allowed in Seattle? I figure your in a "Gun Safe Zone" so you can't have one anyway

I am also surprised you can even drive an Aston there. Aren't you destroying the environment?

I build custom guns, and fit them for high end clients (hence my machining tools) It started as a hobby and became an obsession that pays for my cars (flying pays for my masculinity and adds the excitement factor to my life)

I dont think it will be hard to fabricate a compartment in the car to hide a 7.65....problem is that caliber is a bit feminine.

If you going to point a hand gun it must be a 1911

just searched them - they look really nice! i think maybe getting one of those as a start and build a carpeted compartment around it for concealment may work. still thinking through it though.

any guns would not be loaded - just for carrying from house to shooting range in style

i'd just like a good spot to stow a pistol as i'm driving, but the lack of storage in our cars doesn't seem to make that possible, anyone find a solution?

Drivers door pocket for my pocket one. No round in the chamber. I grab it and drop in back pocket when I get out.

For Holstered round in chamber, I drop behind passenger seat. Nothing mounted, but on driveline tunnel behind passenger seat, a Blackhawk Serpa holster screwed into the body might work nice and no visual permanent damage due to carpet.

Trunk mounted on bottom of decklid.

Those are the only thoughts I have.
