engine light camshaft position sensor?

had a few engine codes pop up after i did a cat delete.

i was wondering if these codes have anything to do with it and is it still drivable?

doesn't idle bad or drive bad.

the codes that worry me are

p0020 intake camshaft position actuator citcuit/ open bank 2
p0010 intake camshaft position actuator citcuit/ open bank 1

im guessing p0141 o2 heater circuit bank1 sensor 2 is the o2 sensor?

2008.
vantage

cat delete pipe were from velocity. i just added a spacer and stuffed a bit of steel wool. worked like a champ for 3 weeks and then the engine light appeared. I'm guessing the steel wool got dislodged. the o2 codes don't really matter but the camshaft codes are a bit scary.

It could be something simple

A Camshaft position Sensor is a very common component/sensor in engines. it is not unique to AM. It is generally located up in the top of the engine and helps with timing of the engine. If you have an electronic copy of the Service manual, just search for "CMP" If you have a wiring diagram, you may be able to locate the sensor by the color coding on the wire to the sensor.

I just replaced one in my mom's Mercedes. The repair should be less than $250. Often it is an issue with magnets that are in the sensor. Sometimes it will just correct itself but may come back.

Maybe this is it

Most modern cars have VVT (Variable valve timing) and the camshaft position sensor tells the engine management system where the camshaft is and based on that info the computer can move the camshaft slightly to get the optimum position, i.e. when you are wot the cam can hold the valves open a little longer to cram in more fuel and the exhaust port open a little longer to let more exhaust out, so you have more power and at idle and low rpm's it moves it the other way to let in less fuel which makes the engine more efficient at making hp and also getting the best mpg.

So, no it will not hurt your engine in the short term, but let it go and you will shorten the life of a lot of parts, mostly your o2 sensors which will not like your car running richer.

Also, check your VVT sensor connectors because I find it very hard to believe both went south at the same time and get that damn wool out, that was not the smartest thing to do, as you added back pressure to the car and to much is a VERY bad thing.

the o2 sensor sit on top of 2 o2 extenders 1, drilled out and 1 with a tiny hole. only the o2 sensor is wrapped with steel wool and its placed on top of the extender so no part of it is sticking directly into the pipe. its not a lot but ill be removing it later on.

i did this with my ferrari 360 and viper before i got a tune and worked for over a year.

i tried looking for the cam sensor and vvt sensor today. couldn't find it.
i know its usually in the front of the engine. does anyone know if i can get to it from up to or do i have to go under? the manual doesn't state where it is. no pictures and the instructions are useless.

this should help. Often looking at parts diagrams can help you out. Also the engine is a Jaguar with Aston upgrades so the basic parts and repairs could also be found in a jag service manual
