08 vantage auto - possible clutch slip when changing gears?
08 vantage auto - possible clutch slip when changing gears?
have a 08 vantage. clutch has about 8000km. done last year
i don't know if its me but i been noticing everytime i go to manually change gears. 1-6. it would rev about 1000-2000rpm before the clutch engages.
i do let off the gas for a 2-3sec during a gear change and it would still rev up like it is in neutral before engaging. i did stick it in 6th gear and floor it at 2000rpm. no slipping after its fully engaged.
could it be early signs of a glazed clutch or finished clutch?
i had a maserati gran turismo and i would always change gears manually, let go of the gas when doing so and step on it once it engages the next gear. never had a issue.
i wonder if it has anything to do with putting in catless pipes without a tune?

just found out the clutch was done year and half ago. bought the car 6 months ago. has less than 6000miles on it. makes it more strange. i took the little cover off. no leaks and looks pretty clean.
You still have a clutch problem.
This could include the clutch disc, the pressure plate (Yes I know they were recently changed) and or the throw-out bearing and release system. If you are confident that the clutch disc and pressure plate is not the problem, then focus on the clutch release system.
In the Vantage, the clutch release bearing and the release mechanism is responsible for releasing the pressure plate from the clutch disc.
The clutch release bearing is connected to one end of the hydraulic unit that expands under hydraulic pressure applied when you press on the clutch pedal.
If this release system is not working properly, it could exhibit some of the symptoms you describe

a update to the vantage.
i took it into mcl aston vancouver a few weeks back. one of the managers test drove the car. went wot a few times. said the slippage is normal but its not really slipping. he said if it was you would smell it and the overheat warning would come on.
fast forward to 500miles later and now. today on the highway while in 6 gear cruising, i went to over take a car while in 6 gear and i went wot without changing gears as it was at around 3000rpm aleady. slipped for a full 2000rpm. and then the clutch overheat warning came on.
it did it in every gear. however at when taking off from a standstill the car does NOT shake. i was told that was one of the symptons of a worn clutch.
also i noticed when i went wot. it would slip for 2000rpm. then lock. then slip again for 500rpm then lock back. i hope they dont deny a warranty claim.

There is no warranty on a wear item, and its been over a year. Its not normal for the clutch to slip in a Sport Shift, unless something is wrong. Did they do the clutch? Did you buy the car from them? They could possibly help you on labor costs.

private sale. it did include a bumper to bumper aftermarket warranty.
clutch was done by their group in another provence/state. only around 10,000miles have been put on the clutch since new.
thats pretty crappy. especially since i didnt even have 20,000miles since the last change. no track days. mostly daily driving.
